On your lo's birthday, when do they open presents? What I was a kid, we would open our gifts after dinner and cake at night. Had to wait all day! I think this year we will do gifts in the morning because she has her party that afternoon
When does your child open their gifts from you?

I always had to wait to open them towards the end of the party. All at the same time. I know sometimes people like to open them privately. But that was rare.
Where I live now, the norm seems to be opening a gift as soon as you receive it, so that the gifter sees you opening it. I find it so odd, especially for kid parties when it gets so hectic. I'm advocating the waiting to open all-at-once method.

First thing in the morning when they get up. If there are too many to get through and we have plans then we save some for later.

LO's birthday was yesterday 
MIL and FIL sent him a trike, we had that waiting for him first thing in the morning. He opened other gifts from DH and I after breakfast and Amazon delivered the last thing later in the day so we did that one in the afternoon.

We wait until after dinner because in the morning DH is already gone - if it was the weekend we would do morning

We give the gifts at the party and they get opened at the party. Except we usually end up with too many, so we squirrel a few away before DS gets a good look at them, and then open them on a different occasion later in the year. I feel like a mean mommy a little bit, but he can't possibly play with all those toys at once!

From us LOs open them on their real birthday. On their party day, they open at the end of the party when things have calmed and most guests are gone.

Family gifts the morning of their birthday. Their parties haven't been on their actual bdays, for the most part.

I did something different this year where she opened a gift a day until the gifts ran out. She LOVED this and it helped prolong the excitement of her birthday. She opened our gifts to her the morning of birthday. We had her party at Chuck E Cheese this year. The kids were busy playing so we didn't open gifts there. I really liked watching her opening a gift a day. It was fun for me too.

@mediagirl: through out the day. From grandpa the night before, from us in the morning, from aunts and uncles after lunch when they were over, etc
