Okay, seriously, I am confused.
Is it 12 weeks? Is that 12 weeks, 1 day, or 12 weeks, 6 days? Or 13 weeks? Or 14? WHAT IS IT?!

Most of the things that I've seen say 13 weeks.

I think different people have different measures, but I consider 14 weeks (14 weeks, 0 days) to be the start of the 2nd tri.

My doctor considered the start of the 14th week to be the 2nd trimester.

Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to . . . I think the concensus is 13/14 weeks (although whether 13+1 = 14 or 14+0 = 14 depends on the counter). I considered myself in the 2nd trimester (as did my OB) at 13 weeks (13+0).

I have found varying results but best I can tell it ends at the end of week 13 (3 13 week trimesters would give a totaly gestation of 39 weeks so that's as close as you are going to get to 3 equal parts). But as far as risk of miscarriage my doctor told me after 12 weeks she feels pretty confident that the risk is very minor.

So confusing! I just went by what my pregnancy apps told me, which was about 13 weeks and 3 days....
I think it's 13 weeks and 3 days days - because if you divide 40/3 into three trimesters, you get 13.333333. So, second trimester starts at 13 weeks and 3 days, third trimester starts at 26 weeks, 6 days....I think?

Just to be safe I considered it over when I hit 14w. Everyone counts it differently.

I'm going to play it safe and believe that 1st trimester is over at 14w. I have my next dr's appt at 14w2d, so after that appt/us/heartbeat is when I'll FB announce.
I did just pass the 12 w mark tho and do feel a bit better about m/c risks/etc.

@highwire: I agree it's VERY confusing!! We are going to play it safe & wait until 13.5 or 14 weeks to tell anyone (except for our parents who will will tell closer to 11 or 12 weeks).

@sulli301: Thanks all! I had been planning on a Mother's Day "announcement" for weeks, but it seems that I'll really only be out of the first trimester by Memorial weekend! At least that is still only a few weeks away.

I go by babycenter's countdown. 2nd trimester is after week 13 according to them!
