How far out did you have a baby shower before giving birth?
I would want one farther out to get the gifts for setting up nursery? But not too far our that the bump is not big enough?
The last one I went to was about 2 months out.

Ours will be near the beginning of July, so around 2 months from our EDD.
My SIL just had her baby shower at just 24 weeks!

@pui: Was it just timing of their schedule that they made it earlier?
@DANIZAUR: Did you feel like you were in a hurry to put away everything that you got? I bet it was exciting tho that you were only about a month out!

I had both of mine around 20 weeks. Not quite my choice, but for the one back home it just happened that's when I was there (for a wedding). For the one at home my SIL was about to get really busy with a bunch of house stuff, then holidays, so she wanted to have it nice and early.
Again, not really my first choice, but it was SO nice to have plenty of time to shop around and get stuff finished.

I had mine at around 30 weeks. I needed to travel to my hometown for it and it was more convenient to do all that pretty far out from the birth.

@snowjewelz: Well she lives in New York (we're in Ontario) and she doesn't want to have to travel too many more times from now on. I think she plans on coming up here one more time before baby's due.

@swurlygurl: That's def what I think of as one advantage to having one early! You have plenty of time to sort things out, return, exchange, figure out everything else you need! Glad it worked out for you!

@fancyfunction: You can tell that my mind has already flown to baby showers haha

I am curious about this because one of my best friends just found out she's pregnant, and I'm already planning her shower. I'm thinking a little over one month from due date, so she'd be like 35 weeks. Is that too late?

Baby will be here June 2nd (it'll be a scheduled C-section). I had an out of town shower March 21 - a little more than 2 months out and will have another one in town mid May - two weeks before!

@whodat: I see a lot of bees have showers after 34 weeks here!
@CakeLady: Hey you get the best of both worlds

29 weeks because we were home for Christmas and wouldn't be back before my due date.

We had it at after LO made his appearance. I can't remember when the shower was scheduled for but LO came at 34 weeks exactly. We had a sip and see since the baby arrived early.

@littlek: Was it crazy b/c you didn't get a lot of the stuff from your registry early? When did you ended up having the sip and see?

Mine was a few days over a month before my due date. My MIL/SIL were co-hosting, and it was just a really busy summer for all of us, so that was the first weekend we all had available.

@snowjewelz: I've noticed most people don't buy off the registry and end up buying clothes. I would be lying if I said we were ready. The furniture for the nursery had not arrived, we had no carseat and we had no preemie clothes. When my water broke, DH took me to the hospital and while they were trying to stop contractions (i think i was in a lull) he ran out and bought a ton of stuff.

I had mine at about 28 weeks. Schedule wise it was what fit. But now I'm glad it was on the earlier side. For one, it gave me time to finish my registry and get the nursery organized in plenty of time. Secondly, I still felt semi-good and looked ok. I BLEW up with swelling during the 3rd trimester. I'm glad I didn't look like that in pictures! It may be vain, but it's true. My face and nose were very swollen so towards the end I didn't look like I normally do.

I think one of mine will be at 32 weeks, not sure of the other one quite yet.

I am not looking forward to this debate. It is more common here to have the shower after baby is born. This has never made sense to me. I get the whole show off the baby etc but I remember when I helped throw my SIL the last thing she wanted to do was get dressed and smile a few weeks after having her first!!
I am going to try to convince my mom and mil to have it before... I am due beginning of November so if we had it after it would be December when everyone is busy we could have it in August, September when it is still nice out and I am still happy!

@Mamasig: I def wasn't considering the vain part, which is VERY important That is a valid concern! I might not even want to show my face if I feel terrible about how I look haha
@MrsScottish: So I guess those "sip & see" things are more common for where you are then! I do understand the point of letting people meet LO, but I do agree it's very stressful on the mom, unless she is also very eager to show off LO

Mine was at 35 weeks and I thought it was perfect timing. I was big enough to have a cute baby bump, but I wasn't really uncomfortable. It definitely ramped up the excitement for me heading towards having the baby!
As far as having enough time to put things away - my shower was on a Saturday, I was put on bedrest on Monday and delivered the following Saturday. My family pitched in and my mom and sister came to my house while we were in the hospital and set up all of our gifts and baby supplies for us (we already had the crib and dresser, but all of the big toys, diapers, clothes, etc). It was amazing. I guess my point is, you never know what's going to happen but it all works out in the end!

@MrsF: oh wow, perfect timing for you tho! And so glad that you had family to come help!

I had mine when LO was a couple days shy of a month old. A lot of our family/friends live out of town, and as much as they like me, I knew they'd prefer to make a trip when they could actually meet the baby.
It was more stressful for me, especially since many of the out of town guests stayed at our house so I also had to plan around feeding, cleaning up after and entertaining 8 house guests all weekend, and we had to buy all the gear type stuff ourselves since I wanted everything in place before she arrived, and guests mostly just brought clothes. And at the actual event, me and LO kept having to disappear to feed, which was met with a lot of complaining from some of DH's relatives who thought I kept taking the baby away from them when they're only here for x amount of days, since I wasn't quite comfortable breastfeeding in front of 30 of my not-closest in laws, but it worked well enough.

I had one at 30 weeks, one at 32 weeks, and one at 37 weeks (that one felt late/rushed)

@NurseMommy: @sapphiresun: we had ours after as well. LO was 6 weeks and got to enjoy the party!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Sapphiresun: I def understand the reasoning behind yours! I just wished that your guests were more understanding!
@redsmarties: Was it nice to have 3? Or feel overwhelmed?
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@snowjewelz: It was three very separate groups of people that threw them for me. I felt overwhelmed with 'stuff', but loved & supported that so many people wanted to party with me. By shower #3, however, I had a lot of duplicates to take back to the store.

I was 34 weeks for ours.
I'm going to be honest-aside from one gift from my parents and an Amazon gift card from my aunt, the shower didn't do all that much to make me feel "ready" for baby to come. People bought nice things, and we will use them eventually, but I spent a good deal of the week after the shower panicking that we weren't ready, because everyone, and I mean *everyone*, went off-registry. It took another few weeks, a few massive Amazon orders, and a few Target trips to feel like we had what we needed for the first few weeks. I'm 39 weeks tomorrow, and I maybe felt like we were ready within the past 10 days or so? That's not even entirely true, because our swing from my MIL isn't here yet, and I still don't have my pump parts.
All that to say, you may or may not feel ready after your shower, and that's OK! I would go with when you feel most comfortable having it time-wise. We traveled for mine, and I wasn't comfortable traveling after 35 weeks. So 34 it was!
