Hmm...I don't think we were allowed to until maybe 4th grade? And I lived in a super safe suburban neighborhood. I would probably let lo go door to door on his own within my line of sight in maybe kindergrten/ first grade (assuming I could trust him to have good manners and say thank you without being reminded....) but completely solo? On our street maybe 6th grade? But it will depend on a lot of factors. Who knows how things will change by then. And I kinda feel the same as @catomd00: if they are old enough to go on their own they may be too old...might be more fun to have a Halloween party instead.

I think my son could (12/7th grade) but he's outgrown it, he tags along to help with the two littles

Probably grade 6 or so. Maybe a little younger if they're going in a big group.

I think I probably went with friends in 4th grade. I think i went door to door girl scout cookie selling before then though! Our town is small and safe but I guess it would depend on a lot of things...her maturity, her friends, neighbors etc. but probably around 4th grade, too.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: I agree, probably around 6. Younger children could go if they were accompanied by the olders.

Umm, never! ...Because my baby is *always* going to be my baby!

(Yes, I'm in total denial that DD is ever going to grow up and be too cool for her mom.)

I am not sure, we've not officially had TOT at our house yet, so I need to see what our streets are like.

By the time I'd let her roam the streets alone, she'll be too old. Unless she's going with friends and there's an older teen. Our subdivision gets crazy busy. And lots of older kids (shadier looking older kids) come in from other neighborhoods, causing trouble.

Probably never. I never went trick-or-treating by myself and I can't really imagine letting my kids go (and by the time I think they're old enough to go alone, they're probably too old to trick-or-treat).

I can imagine going someplace that does trick-or-treating and let them roam about on their own, if it was at a park or a school or something very supervised. But alone? Nope.

I didn't grow up in a suburban neighborhood so I never went on my own, we always did fall festivals instead. We currently don't live in an area where anyone would go door to door TOT & we will probably be here for the long term so never? Lol there would have to be some parent present to take even a group to & from a TOT safe neighborhood.
