Mrs. Bee's mom just arrived today for a 4-day visit, and immediately started cooking and helping out with the kids. She definitely lightens the load for us when she visits! We are so grateful!!!
When your family or in-laws visit, do they take work off your plate or add to it?

They take work off. I hardly have to cook a meal when my mom or mother in law visit.

We love my in laws and parents, but there is always some additional work as well as some work off-loaded. In balance, totally worth it.

I'm so glad my in laws don't stay only but a few hours. I'd have to send myself to the nuthouse if they stayed any longer. Two hours even pushes it. Does that answer the question? My family is helpful though.

My family is helpful. It makes me nauseous just thinking about my in laws coming to visit. ugh.

They both add to my plate and take away! They help with chores but I feel obligated to entertain them even when I'm dead tired and all I want to do is turn off my brain. They all come from far away so they stay for a while at a time.

When my parents come visit, I end up entertaining. I have to wash sheets before they come, feed everyone, etc. it's always stressful having house guests .

@mrbee: Sad but true! They're great in many ways, but it's incredibly hard to have them as house guests. We much prefer to visit them so that we can all go our separate ways as needed. Small doses are necessary.

My inlaws arenmore work up front because I feel like I need to scrub my house top to bottom before they come over. Once they're here I can relax. My family..I don't stress at all. They can come when my house is a wreck and I wouldn't care.
