Oh how I wish we had a toy room....R's toys are in her room. If we're playing in the LR, I bring them out and promptly put them back! We have a few bins in her room that have lids so the mess can be somewhat contained.
As she gets older, I think this is going to be more difficult. Hopefully we'll be moving to a bigger place soon though!

In our living room and her room. We don't have a play room either.

We have an open plan downstairs, but her toys are in the area of it that we consider to be out "office".

In his room. He brings things out in the living room to play, but they stay in his room.

We have an open kitchen/living room, and her toys are in baskets in the play 'area'-- it's behind the couch so it feels a little more like a separate area. That's also where the office area is.
Her room is small plus we have a queen size bed in there so there is no room to play. Plus I usually clean up while she is sleeping.

Most of her toys are in a toybox in the living room, we spend all day in the living room so it made sense. Also, we don't have a toy/play room and lo's room is pretty small.

We have a nook between the living room and kitchen that we use as a play area.

DD's toys are in our den, because that's where we spend most of our time and she still needs to be supervised 24/7. DS's toys are all in his room.

Most of his toys are in his room, but a small basket of his favourite toys are in the living room along with his exersaucer.

The living/dining area is her play area. Right now we have baskets but I need a better solution for her books.

We just turned the office into a half playroom last night. It is right off the living room. So the living room has three big items and then a basket of little stuff still.

I seriously hope we have a toy room one day. At 5 months, LO doesn't really have too many toys yet and I keep a basket of her stuff in the living room. But this won't work for me when she's actually playing with stuff and not just chewing on a rattle.

Right now, at five months, we keep a basket of toys in the living room. But when she's a bit older, we will organize the basement as a play room.

Where are the supposed to be? In the storage ottoman in the living room. Where are they actually? All over the *%$*&#@ floor. Sigh.

In the basement. We roatate them out periodically, but most of them live in storage totes in the basement. Then we have toys in the living room, and art supplies, and toys in the girls rooms. Sometimes they go other places in the house, but not too often. And we're not strict about any of that; the girls just typically play on the carpet. It's warmer, I guess.

Mostly in the play room but she does have a corner of the living room that has a few little people sets, her play table and kitchen.

His room, the living room, and the basement ("play" room) have toys. There's maybe a dozen in each place & we rotate like @Mrs. Twine:

@nursemommy Me too! I always said that when I had a baby, I would limit the toys/gadgets.....what a fool. My house has been taken over by everything baby

Living room and his bedroom. We made a small play area in the living room for him that he loves.

Mostly in our living room, since we spend our time there. But she doesn't have a ton out at a time, since we rotate, so the room doesn't feel like a big toy explosion.

Mostly in the living room. Some are in his room. I wish we had a playroom!!

In one corner of the living room. I really really wish we had a spare room, or more space in her room to store toys.

We have a play area for DS in our basement. We have a handful of toys in the main living area as well.

we spend the majority of our time in the living room, so that's where most of her toys are. I am in the process of making her room more play room friendly!

In the living room (she's too young to be out of sight right now.) Our next house will have a playroom though!

Hard to say...we have a toy room but only big toys are in there. Our living room has a storage ottoman filled with toys, a pantry and bookcases lined with baskets of toys so probably 50/50 toy room and living room.

most of her toys are in the playroom/office, but a lot are in the living room too
