Just trying to make sure we've looked at all of our options. We don't want to spend too much but want it to be sturdy. Right now we're looking at a Land Of Nod backpack so I would love opinions on those too. I think all she has to fit in the bag is a complete change of clothes, maybe her water, and any crafts to bring home.

@Truth Bombs: Ditto, that's what we have, too-- got it at Buy Buy Baby on clearance last summer (it's a penguin). They're on Amazon for under 20 bucks, too.
Our preschool has a change of clothes in a separate bin, so you don't leave it in your kid's backpack. The Skip Hop backpack has a pocket on the side for a water bottle. Crafts/art projects are still usually a little wet when we come for pick up, so they don't end up in the backpack for the walk out to the car. Char usually just has whatever item she wants to bring for show and tell in her backpack, and 90% of the kids in her class don't have one.

We have the PBK Fairfax and love it. LO has been using it for the last year and I don't see any wear and tear on it at all. We keep his lunch, snack, sheet, blanket, and sometimes swim stuff in there depending on what they're doing at school that day.

Have had a Skip Hop for 2 years and it still looks brand new even after daily (all year, including summer) use.

Crazy8. She picked it out herself! I was surprised she went for this super cute striped one over a frozen backpack like her best friend has. We haven't started using it yet but it seems very sturdy

DH and DD went to target one day and came home with a Sophia the first sparkly one that lights up! She uses that one for pre-k.
i recently purchased a pink unicorn backpack from LON for her to carry to korean school. She picked it out! -

Another skip hop bag here! He has the matching lunch bag. He won't be carrying much, we leave spare clothes in his cubby as well as other things like sunscreen etc. ironically his backpack will likely just hold his water bottle and his lunch bag inside

LL Bean here too--the junior size can fit a sheet of paper (great for any notices, etc), and the bag will last forever! We are going on year 4 of use of ours and it still fits and is going strong!

Sorry to threadjack...but what's in your 3-year-old's backpack for preschool? Did your school ask for one to be brought or you're just letting her/him bring one?

@mrsjazz: we were asked to bring one with a change of clothes inside. I bought a regular kid sized backpack (not the smaller kid size) and I was glad I did! In the winter it was actually pretty full with snow pants, hat, mittens and shoes for gym. Plus his teacher used regular sized folders for bringing papers back and forth.

@chopsuey: you are an awesome mom for supporting the sparkle light up character bag! DD1 was gifted an sparkly Dora backpack at Christmas..I let her take it on car trips but im not sure I can bring myself to let it make an appearance at preschool, knowing I'll wind up carrying it home!

@PinkElephant: We have the small. LO will be 3 in September, but he's been using it for the last year. It looks ridiculously big on him, but we figured we'd just carry it in and out. He wanted to wear it starting about 9 months ago, and it's hilariously big on him, but he loves it and has no issues walking with it. It's when we stuff it full that I hold the top while he walks so it's not so heavy for him.

Haven't received it yet, but I love Bean products and am still using the backpack I used in college an embarrassingly long time ago! It's in great shape.

LO isn't old enough for this yet, but I had a lot of L.L. Bean backpacks growing up and they were great and lasted a long time.
