My name came from an actress on the tv show Chips. Horribly embarrassing, but my mom had never heard it before and fell in love. My middle name was a random grab from someone they saw on a talk show. My mom thinks it was an author who was being interviewed. They liked it and thought it went well with my first name.

My mom had a close friend in college with the same name. But I think she just liked it and I wasn't named after her friend.

My dad said that I would be his little princess, being that I was the baby of the family and only girl (three older brothers) so they chose Sarah, which means Princess in Hebrew. My middle name, Caitlin, is a variation of my mother's name (Katheryn) although they liked the C better than the K.

I'm Indian... my father chose my name. It means the little bells on classical dancers' anklets when they dance. Good thing I love to dance!
I never had a middle name so I made my maiden name my middle name after I got married.

I was named after 3 other babies in the hospital nursery. My father nixed my planned name last minute and they went with my 'now' name (which was painfully common for the time, obviously).
It is a not-so-hilarious anymore (to me) , long story, that my family tells about twice a year. sigh.

My dad really liked the nickname Jessie but my mom didn't want the increasingly popular "Jessica" (i'm a mid 80s baby) so they decided to just go with Jessie instead of the fullname. Middle name is the same as my aunt's.

My parents wanted my name to start with the same letter as my grandmother's sister since she died right before I was born (Jewish tradition). My actual name comes from a pretty famous book (which I'm not even sure my mom ever read).

My mom always tells the story that she and my dad couldn't agree on a girl's name for anything. I guess my mom (and everyone else) was "positive" that I was going to be a boy, so they hadn't even thought of girl's names. As they were arguing back and forth they got to the name Kristan - which the doctor who delivered me insisted was the right name. I think he may have come up with the alternate spelling as well haha.

Not sure where they got it from, pretty common. It was the only name they could agree on but Mom just wanted it spelled differently.

My parents named my sisters and me after stars so that we would remember that the universe is greater than us. They were hippies, but it worked out well as we all have beautiful names.

I was supposed to be Jessica (mom's choice). But at the hospital my dad decided that they should name me after his kind of crush, who at the time had a good reputation: one of the Jackson sisters. Not Janet. And not Rebbie. Yeah, the one who posed in Playboy and had a psychic network.
I hated my name for most of my life because I don't like her. I got over it though.

My mom read about someone in the paper and told my dad that she really liked the name... then she realized she remembered it wrong. They went with the “wrong” name because they liked it better. For a long time I thought I would have had preferred the name they had picked before (Florine). But my dad preferred an old-fashioned name over a French one... he thought everyone would get it wrong...

In her 8th month of pregnancy, my mom got a sonogram overseas and they told her that she was pregnant with twins... but that one of them was dead. When the second twin (me) was born and turned out to be alive, she chose a name which she felt expressed the miracle of that life.

My mom loved the movie "Gone With The Wind" and so I was named after the actress Vivien Leigh. But spelled with an "a". I wish it was spelled with the "e" but never bothered to change it.

My mom and dad were middle school/high school sweethearts. They were home ec partners, and had to take a "baby" (robotic doll) home one weekend to take care it. They named the baby the name I have now! So when I came around, my mom said the choice was simple! I'm named after the first "baby" they had together.

I'm named after the actress who danced on the hood of Whitesnake's car. ;P My name ends in -ee instead of -y. I hated it growing up because people never knew how to pronounce it. I guess the ending confused them. I love it now though.

My name is Greek. I was told they picked it by combining my mom's nickname with my day's first initial. I guess they chose a name that was close to it.

My first name comes from a retail store and soap opera character that my mom and her friend thought sounded "rich, luxurious," but it is spelled differently. My middle name is the female version of my dad's. I really like the way my first and middle name sound together, although I loathe my first because, to me, the name never grows up.

My Mom loved Abigail Adams so I was named after her. I loved reading her letters with John Adams in Am. Lit. class. She was such an influential and strong woman! Plus, Abigail means joy, so I love that part about my name too.
