My mom grew up in Brooklyn. She left home for a short period after my sister was born when we lived in South Carolina, but moved back shortly after. She'll be a lifelong New Yorker!

My dad moved to the U.S./NYC when he was a teenager with his family from Guyana, South America. He's lived in Philadelphia for about 20 years now.

Both of my parents grew up in the Bronx. They moved for my dad's career when they got married, and moved again twice more before settling down in the city where I grew up (and no longer live).

My mother grew up in a very rural/agricultural town an hour away from Sapporo, Japan. My dad grew up in Colorado. They met in Japan when he was teaching at an international school Mom was a secretary at the same school. They moved to Colorado in the late '70s. My mom is the black sheep of the family and so once she met this gaijin (foreigner) she hightailed it out of her town and is the only one in her family not living in Japan.

My Mom was born in Miami, moved to Central Florida as a teen, then moved around as an adult to Ohio, North Carolina, Germany, Tennessee, and now my parents live in Albania.

My Dad was born in Michigan, but his family was military so he moved dozens of times growing up, graduated high school in Spain, then joined the military himself and moved all over, met my Mom in Germany, lived a few more places, and now they live in Albania.

My parents both grew up in St Louis, have lived there their whole lives and still live there. They lived in the same neighborhood where they grew up (with the exception of about 5 years, right when i was born) until last year when they moved further out into a rural area in a different county.

My parents were born and semi-raised in little towns in Southern China (mom's from Fujian, can't recall where dad was born. I should really get an answer!). They emigrated to Vietnam when they were fairly young due to "stuff" and they came to the U.S. in 1982 during the war. They were sponsored, and moved to OK. My dad went to school all over the country - NJ and various colleges in OK.

My parents were both born in South Korea, but my mom spent most of her childhood in Bolivia. They met in Canada, right before they got married.

My mom was born in Yamaguchi, Japan, close to Hiroshima. Her family moved to Gotemba, Japan (small town at the base if Mt Fuji) when she was still very young. My real dad is from a small town in Kyushu (southern island of Japan). They divorced and my mom remarried an American ( my stepdad) and we moved to Wisconsin, where he is from. My mom isn't a typical Japanese and definitely, was and is much happier living in the US.

My parents left their hometown of Enping, China to go to Hong Kong when they were both in their twenties. My dad went off to Brazil and lived there for 10 years. He met a professor from the States in Brazil, and my dad followed him back to Delaware of all places. Later he met my mom through word of mouth and went back to Hong Kong to marry her and bring her to the States in the early 70s.

My in-laws are from Vietnam and came here in the early 80s.

@mrbee: not at all. once they divorced, he was completely out of the picture. I think that happens a lot in Japan, where the parent with custody will cut off all communication with the other parent. He also happened to be Korean but born in Japan (in my mom's generation, that was not a good thing). So my mom caused a lot of grief for her family.

My mom was an army brat so she never had a hometown. She lived in Italy, AK, MD, GA and PA growing up; and several more states/cities as an adult. My dad grew up in Los Angeles; and he and my mom met there. They haven’t lived in Los Angeles since the early 1970’s though.

My parents both grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. They didn't leave until my dad was transferred to Oklahoma for work -- he worked for a major airline. They moved to Tulsa in 1978, adopted me in 1980, and then moved to Florida when my dad retired, in 2000!

My Mom was born in Brooklyn and my dad was born in Ecuador. He moved to the states when he was 3. They met in NY.
