We have a regular plastic trash can with a lid. We only put pee diapers in it and take it out every 3 days, so it doesn't really stink. We keep a roll of dog poop bags at the changing table, and put all poop diapers into the poop bags, and leave those in a small trash can by our back door, which we take out frequently. This works better now that LO only poops 1 - 2x a day, max. I know as a newborn, he was pooping ALL the time, so this wouldn't have worked as well back then! We just emptied the trash daily back then.

We use a genie for diapers that happen upstairs and we bring any dirty diapers that we change downstairs straight out to our main bin in the attached garage. My SIL warned me not to switch away from the genie. She said they thought it was a waste of money so they tried a regular garbage and ended up going back to the genie because the smell was awful. We empty the genie a few times a week so that probably helps but I find it goes a great job of containing any odors. There are several disposal systems that work like the genie though and I'm sure they are great too.

We have a metal simple human trash can with a lid. Works just fine!

I love our diaper genie. It contains the smell really well. The only downside is the price of the special bags. We've tried the target brand and find that they don't work well, and we end up wasting most of the bag, causing us to buy more. So we just use the bags made by diaper genie.

We use a diaper champ. It was super cheap at Target and it takes regular trash bags. I actually dump solid poops in the toilet, but I only have to empty it once a week, and it doesn't smell in between (we also use cloth at least 50% of the time, so that helps). When he was younger and we used disposables exclusively, I emptied it every 2-3 days.

We used a Baby Trend Diaper Champ for about a year and a half until it got stinky, we decided to go standard trashcan and just take the trash out every few days. We never put "big girl" stinky poops in the trash can, they go straight to the garage and the big garbage can.

I love that our Diaper Champ can use regular trash bags. We got ours as a hand me down, so double bonus. If you don't want to spend retail on it, maybe see if there is one on Craigslist? I mean, it's going to have poop in it anyway
