We clean about 60% of the mess as we go, and the rest goes into our bedroom to pile up on the bed and floor. Then we close the door and pray that nobody opens it!
Our plan is to get more shelf space in the bedroom and foyer area, and then we can have a permanent home for a lot of the stuff that keeps cluttering up the house.
Where do you put the mess when you have to clean your home in a hurry?

It pretty much always goes into our bedroom and 9 times out of 10, stays in there

I do my best to put everything back in it's place right after using it, but our kitchen table always ends up covered in stuff that has no place yet.

I have baskets everywhere, easy to hid in our master walk in closet when company comes to make it look less-clutter.

Our bedroom. We had a big party once when we lived in a one bedroom apartment and moved all my scrapbook stuff from my desk in the living room (it has open shelves and can look very cluttered) plus extra furniture into the bedroom to clear up space.
Well, someone's date thought his jacket was in the bedroom (it was in the coat closet directly across the hallway...) and tried to go in there. I asked him not to, even stood in front of the door way saying "Your jacket is in the closet behind you, not in here." But he pushed me aside and opened the door, insisting he saw DH put his coat in that room...and slammed it into a table that was hiding in there!
I was so embarrassed because the room was a disaster with all the extra furniture piled up in there and all my scrapbook stuff in piles on top of that!

in the spare room. it's where my desk and craft stuff are, but it's just a breeding ground for homeless crap.

In the master closet or bathroom. I like having a two story though, since no one really has a reason to go upstairs at all.

i clean up all of her toys since it's a quick 15 minute sweep. I dump all the unsorted mail and knick knacks that i don't have time to put away into an empty diaper box and leave that box in my closet. Most times, it stays in there for another week until I finally sort it out!
