It depends on the manufactures recommendations for your car and how far the latches are apart on the car seat you pick out.
We have a ford escape and our graco snug ride could only go on the sides per our cars manufacture recommendations (middle latches were too far apart). We kept the seat on the passengers side. Once we switched to our britix marathon we were able to use the center, which I prefer much more.

Ds's booster seat is on the passenger side of the back seat, because that's the side of the car he gets in and out of at school. So, dd's carseat is behind me. I didn't want to put her *right* next to ds, so that he has a place to put things down in the middle.
