If you don't have a fireplace mantle.
I'm thinking of getting door hangers for wreaths and using that on our double bedroom doors. Any other suggestions?

On a half wall that we have, in the entry, using those stocking hanging things that rest on a ledge.
I love your idea of hanging them on a double door, though.

@cmomma17: nope we live in a one level house. I bet that looked really festive though!

We put some holiday ribbon on the big wall in the living room (with push pins--how classy). We used one ribbon for stockings and the other for holiday cards with clothespins. Planning to do the same this year!

@MamaCate: did you fill the stockings at some point? The push pins were strong enough to hold?

We have a mantle but I am/was always scared the kids would pull them down and the stocking holder would bust their head open! We use those command strips on the wall.
Once full, Santa removes them and puts them under the tree

When we didn't have a fireplace, our stockings were usually all hung in the living room in a big arch over the couch, or in diagonal lines sometimes.
Stockings were always found filled with goodies on the couch with the new stuffed animal or porcelain doll, hung on bike handles, etc.
Only when we were older and the stockings weren't overflowing would they still be on the wall with some candy inside.

I always loved the idea of hanging them on the headboard of the bed.

You could use a ladder and make a cute display with stockings and the cards you receive.

we hung them on our tv cabinet/stand.... they looked great but it was a pain to use the remote since it covered the cable box sensor

@mrs.shinerbock: @Smurfette: I really like the window idea.

Last year I used command hooks above our fireplace. Plan to do the same this year.

My parents always just hung them up on a wall with a nail. Then they would take them down to fill them and put them right outside our bedroom doors in the morning.

We hang them with nails and then I string a ribbon through them so you can't see the nails. When I fill them I take them down and lay them in front of the Christmas Tree with their Santa gifts. I don't have a picture on my computer at work though.

We don't have a fireplace either so we don't have stockings! I never found a good place for them to go either.

We hang ours off of the counter in between the kitchen and dining room.

@Adira: that's basically where I got the idea of hanging them on our bedroom door because I want them on our future LOs foor. We always opened stockings last, but I'd love it to be a first-thing in the morning thing for my LOs. Add a note and give them time to reflect on things when they first wake up.

@regberadaisy: i wish i could do that! we have a stone fireplace, straight from the 70s, and i don't think the strips/hooks would stick to the uneven stone.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I think you could probably hang them anywhere as decor. Santa will know where to put them when he fills them (or you guys will if Santa doesn't do it)! I don't think you have to hang them on the same floor as the bedrooms just because that's where you want them to be in the morning.

We got a stand-alone stocking holder similar to this: http://www.kirklands.com/product/Santa-Stocking-Holder/158893.uts?keyword=stocking
Ours sits in front of our gas fireplace but you could set it up where ever you want!

I bought a little curtain rod and put it hanging on two stocking holders on our bar with the stockings hanging off a la http://www.southhousedesigns.com/stocking-rods/
I have no mantle and only found stocking holders with little clips, but Home Depot had a 7/16" rod that fit perfectly

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We used silver command hooks on the wall.

We had a stocking hanger that hung on the wall. Similar to this...

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: if I remember correctly. We used clothespins after we filled them?
