Is there a better/safer spot to put my rear-facing convertible car seat? I have the option of putting it in the middle, or behind the front passenger seat. I'd imagine that one it's forward-facing, I'll definitely move it to behind the front passenger seat, but while rear-facing, I'm not so sure. What did you do?

I believe the center seat is supposed to be the safest spot.
In my sedan we had to put behind the passenger seat due to spacing.

Center seat is safest if it can be installed there well. Some vehicles doesn't let the car seat touch the front seat backs.

Generally, the middle seat is safest but in our car, the seat touched both front seats when installed in the middle so we installed behind the passenger seat. We are both tall and it would have been difficult to drive with the car seat behind the driver.

It didn't work in the center of my car, so it's behind the front passenger seat. But my car is a huge sedan and there's plenty of room to spare.

We did behind the passenger, but I think center is supposed to be the safest and you prioritize that for non-infant seats. Like, if you have a toddler and an infant, the toddler goes in the middle and the baby bucket goes on an outside.

We have it behind the driver seat in my car and in the center in DH's car.
Statistically, the center is the safest spot in the car and the sides are equal per the car seat lady (http://thecarseatlady.com/center-or-side/) I've found this site to be useful for car seat question.
