My first job was when I was 16 working at Pretzel Time. I went home after that first shift feeling so sick from all of the grease and pretzel stench, I refused to go back. A couple of weeks later, I was working at a collectibles store which I consider a perfect first position. This is way back when minimum wage was $4.25/hr.

I started cleaning the local newpaper office when I was 12, and I did that through high school; I also started teaching ballet lessons around the same time, and I really loved doing that!

I worked at a burger shack, not a chain, just an independent place. It was pretty gross at times.

I worked at a local snack shack that was only open in the summer. They had lobster rolls, drinks, and ice cream. The owner was a perv and I hated it there, but it was just for the summer, and I definitely liked getting paid. One summer was enough though!
ETA: Oh, and I met one of my best guy friends there! We had the agreement that if neither of us were married by 30, we'd marry each other!

@BeachMama: My first job was at The Gap as well! I started at 16 and worked there for 5 years, 3 different stores, and helped open an Old Navy. I loved it there!

Besides lots of babysitting my first job was at 16 (almost 17) at a bank where I worked for 3 years all through college. Loved that place up until the owners sold it to a large company and it went downhill fast.

Anyone remember that SNL skit w/adam sandler where they worked in a Gap? When someone walked in, he would greet them with "Welcome to the Gap, Wanna buy some crap?". It made me laugh so hard:)

I volunteered at the library when I was 12. They paid me a little bit.

I was 15, and worked at a local bakery! I had to get a workers permit, and I made $5.15
