If you were going to get a job solely for the discount perk where would you work?

i liked the jobs i had in my late teens/early 20s - Baskin Robbins and the movie theatre. Free ice and movies was awesome
But i agree with @MapleMoose: now, maybe an airline would be nice for cheap flights.

Air France. In addition to free flights while you work for them, if you make it there 15 years, you get free flights for life (this was the case 10 years ago when I had a friend working there, not sure if it's still the same).

@blackbird: nope. I. Would. Die.
But so many people do that!!

Hmmm....good question.
I love fresh fish so maybe a fish market if I could take home whatever's leftover at the end of the day? But then I would smell gross. Nope.
I love to travel but I wouldn't want to be away from my family if I had to travel to get the ability to travel.
Honestly? I'd go back and work for ESPN. When I worked there, you got Disney park tickets every quarter (or half year?) and discounts to the parks and the resorts. Their other benefits were pretty good, too. Yeah, I'd go back and work for the mouse (through sports) again.

I actually do work in a daycare/preschool. Not just for the perk (I love kids and daily interactions with them!) but it's definitely a nice bonus! Other than that...I would say Disney World, but I'm not sure if being in the parks everyday would ruin it for me. Maybe something more behind-the-scenes?

The first place I thought of was Target, haha but I think an airline or hotel would be awesome if they gave good discounts!

DH and I have always worked opposite schedules, before J was born I would work a part time retail job for fun, discounts, two nights a week.
I worked at VS for 7 years! - free stuff, good discount.
I also worked the Gap and they had a tremendous discount, 50% off everything and occasionally a free outfit.
I think I'd work somewhere with a good discount for either kids clothes or home stuff.

Wegmans!!! They are consistently fortune 500 top companies to work for because of how well they treat their employees and all the benefits. And they pay for your education while you work for them!

Four Seasons - 7-10 free nights at any of their properties around the world.

@regberadaisy: I heard that Starbucks pays for college now too!
@rachiecakes: wow 50% at Gap??
@LuLu Mom: My neighbors DS works at Target and its only 10% - wish it was more!

I worked for gap too and it was 50% off full priced items, 30% off of sale and of course, other perks here and there too. Oh and the discount worked at Banana Republic and Old Navy (only 30%) too!
Now, I would work for JetBlue or American Airlines I think! Travel is most important to me!

Out of anywhere, I'd probably go with a private school/university so my kids would get reduced/free tuition.
For myself though, I'd probably go with Anthropologie - I love so much of their stuff but just can't justify the price!

Probably Belk's. Employees get a 20% discount, even off sale prices, and I find a lot of items there for me and my LO.
For all those who said airlines, I grew up with family working for Delta and as an employee, you and your family members fly for free if an open seat anywhere they go. I have bought 1 plane ticket my entire life - so yeah, it's the best deal out there.

The airline or hotel employee perks are awesome so I would do that!
The other employee discounts that would be useful would be Nordstrom, Costco and a furniture store.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
Costco, as their benefits and pay are amazing. Plus I would never have to buy lunch because I could feast on their samples

@Tanjowen: I have several clients who are long time Delta employees and they say that recently (probably the past five years) they just buy tickets if they need to get somewhere in a day's time. You are only able to fly for free on stand by and flights seems to be fully booked these days. Most remark at what a change this is from what it used to be like.

Realistically, if we're talking perks? Google and Apple have the best, right?!?!
coconut / 8234 posts
@blackbird: I liked your daycare idea, but you're right Google is one of the best companies to work for, especially for working parents. Plus, they have so much free food! That is a big perk to me.
I'd like to work for Amazon! Do they have employee discounts?
coconut / 8430 posts
@mrsjazz: Amazon is known for being an extremely thrifty company. The employee discount is pretty limited, as are the employee benefits.
Facebook and Google are probably among the best in the tech industry for workplace perks and benefits.

Starbucks. I've actually heard they have good benefits for employees!

@californiadreams: baskin Robbins!! Yummmm. My fave was a flavor called daiquiri ice, remember that??
@LuLu Mom: ha! I had the exact same train of thought. Target first..... Then an airline would be amazing.

@hellobeeboston: yes, i LOVED daquiri ice. sooo refreshing, especially in the summer! My all time fave was world-class chocolate

a university/college!
I'm a therapist, and always keep my eye out for a college counseling gig. Great schedule and my kids get free tuition.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@californiadreams: oh. My. God. Yes!!!!! World class chocolate was sooooo good, that was the other one I always got!! That flavor is gone too right? I miss old school BR

Daycare for sure if my kid can go for free or at a very discounted rate!

@LBee: I can say it has gotten more difficult to fly inside the States for sure. It takes a lot more flexibility now than it did growing up!

Any department store makeup counter! Most brands give you a quarterly "gratis" allowance to order products from that brand (and often others owned by the same parent company), plus you're still considered a store employee so you get the employee discount too. I worked for Clinique in college and it was the best.
pomegranate / 3411 posts
@hellobeeboston: i actually think they still have it. at least as of last summer!
