You will get harassed a LOT after your stated due date if baby isn't here. Give the later date.

I was initially told March 8th, but after my 1st ultrasound at 12 weeks, they changed me to March 5th. I tell people the 5th.

My due date has bounced around from May 16th, to May 14th, to May 8th, to May 17th. I just tell people the middle of May.

I believe that due dates past 12 weeks aren't as accurate because the size/growth of fetus after 12 weeks is dependent on more factors (e.g. genetics) than before 12 weeks.

In general, I'd advise you to just say you're due in the "beginning of April" when people ask.. If someone really presses for a date, i agree with the previous poster who said you'd be doing yourself a favor if you just said a later date. Near the end, it gets super annoying each time someone asks if your baby is here yet and he/she isn't... this buys you a little time for yourself too, but know that babies can usually be expected from week 36 and later anyway.

The doc put my due date as December 10. I always just said "beginning of December." Most people, when they ask, don't really care too much about the actual date.

Just chiming in on the thread after finding it for future readers, although it's moot for the original poster at this point...

I'm due late February/early March 2013, and that's all I plan to tell people. (We haven't told anyone but my Mom yet, and it's driving her crazy that I won't give a specific date. But it's just an estimate within a range, so I feel that giving the range itself is more accurate. And people get so hung up on that date...)

I calculated my estimated due date based on my knowledge of my cycle, which does vary from the "average" 28-day cycle. When I first met with my OB, and they of course asked the date of my last menstrual period, I asked them if they would take my longer cycle into account before they gave them the date. They said they would, but then didn't. And when I had my first ultrasound they were surprised that the measurements changed the date by, oh, about the number of days difference between my cycle length and the 28-day average. So, yeah, now it's adjusted and only a day different from the date I originally came up with. In our heads we're still going with my original calculation, and just plan to tell people the range once we announce it, probably next week. (Eeek!)

I always used the original due date from LMP. I was told by the u/s tech that the very first ultrasound is the best predictor of due date and unless it was off by more than a week most OBs just use LMP.

I use my first U/S date even though I'm measuring a week ahead because they told me that is when they are most accurate (that is also the one they have stuck with!) October 6th!

Like PP have said, the most accurate due date measure happens at the first ultrasound and gets subsequently less accurate as baby grows (since all babies start out the exact same size and then obviously are not all the same size by the time they are born).

There have been no changes made to our original due date of 11/23 since my doctor doesn't ever change dates unless there is a giant discrepancy at that first ultrasound compared to LMP due date. However, all of my ultrasounds have the baby measuring about 4 days smaller, so I usually tell people the due date is around Thanksgiving, but I expect I the baby will be late by about 4 days. Ha.

go with the later one. i have read and it seems like the earllier ultrasounds are more accurate. also its just a lot harder to be a lady in waiting then it would be if baby showed up early.

I'm in a different situation. Since I'm high risk and will be induced early, we usually say "Oh, she's due December 30th, but we'll actually be induced a few weeks before."

I was dumb and told people the date. I tried to say late September, but people push "what's the date?" so I didn't feel like dealing with having to explain the whole thing.

I already have people putting in requests - not to have her on this day because of this, please have her on this day because oh it's my anniversary or birthday, etc. Oh - let me get right on that!

I usually just say October. I don't like giving the exact date because I don't want a ton of people asking "Is baby here yet" if I go past due.
