DH and I have begun actively house hunting. We are looking at 2 houses:
#1 is our dream home but is at the top end of our budget. While it's still certainly affordable (we purposely chose a smaller budget so that we wouldn't be strapped) we would like to get the price down a bit. It's a brand new, 4 bedroom home that has stunning curb appeal. The kitchen and bathrooms are out of this world and I love all the little details in it.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we are also looking at a smaller house in a great neighborhood. It is also very nice - brand new kitchen, double corner lot, 4 bedrooms, new windows, new siding, new roof, a pool... but it has some features that I'm not crazy about (split level, smaller bedrooms, no master bath.)
The kicker is that house #2 is WAY cheaper - like 1/2 the cost. So cheap we would be able to buy it without a mortgage. It doesn't need any extensive renos and it almost seems too good to pass up. It's never a house I would have chosen for us but for the price & how comfortable our lives would be (financially speaking), it seems crazy to at least not seriously consider it.
What do you think - decent starter home for a few years, or go big with the dream house right off the bat?

I will delete the site in a little bit but hopefully that gives you a better idea of what we're looking at!
