    Top 5

    I don't like super popular but not too unique either.

    If I had to choose it would probably be top 5.

    Unique - LO's name is not even on the list for SSA in 2011, but it isn't weird or that uncommon.

    @MrsTiz: love your names!!!

    FYI Harper is like top 100 not in the 600s (if thats the one you were talking about).. but its an awesome name so I don't think that matters!!

    @Mrs. Champagne: ..man. what list was I looking at!?

  6. Mrs. Champagne

    coconut / 8483 posts

    @MrsTiz: haha! there are SOO many lists.. I only trust the government ones! More legit. lol

  7. Mrs. Pickle

    I'd choose unique!

  8. dolphin

    pomegranate / 3768 posts

    top five baby!

    I think there is such a thing as too unique, but I wouldn't choose the top 5 either.

  10. MrsKoala

    I'd go with unique but not younique... (if you know what I mean)...

    Top 5. I would prefer unique (like lower top 100 through 200's) but 500 or higher is VERY UNIQUE. I think being the only Eleanor or something growing up in the 80's isn't that bad but having a more made-up/spelled weird name is NOT worth it.

    @MrsTiz: lovvvve Molly!!!!

    I'd go unique just because.... it can't be insane though.

    Eta: I just checked my fav girl name and the name that will most likely be my future daughter's and it is 687!!! It is Mariam. Not unique or hard to pronounce...biblical and Islamic, so I thought it would be higher than that.

    Top 5. I'm afraid that a top 500 name wouldn't give you much to choose from that you'd really like. My name was top when I was born and I love it. My baby name is definitely popular but what frustrates me is that I've loved a few names that were super original originally (since no one had them at the time) like Avery...I picked it out for a girl about 15 years ago...and now it's super popular.

  14. Mrs. Pen

    unique! Jacobi isn't in the top 1000, but I don't feel it's too "out there" either so I feel you can have a name outside of top 500 that isn't weird but isn't uber popular.

    My name as well is usually outside top 500 and I love it.

    @MrsKoala: lol!! this!!! exactly

    If I had a more generic last name, I would be fine with a unique first name but I'll have to go with the top 5!

    Unique! Our top girl name isn't even in the top 1000. It isn't hard to pronounce and it doesn't have a weird spelling.

  18. Mrs. Jacks

    Our daughters' names fall at the mid 200s and 800s respectively. Unique but familiar and easy to spell were top priorities for us.

    unique. our LO's name is out of the top 500, but i don't think it's particularly weird or hard to spell.

  20. Vegmama

    @lawbee11: Definitely unique. I've never met anyone with the same name as me, and I really love it. We're planning on naming our baby the same way. Our baby will have a unique name, but it will be able to pronounce and spell.

    I did hate when ppl mispronounced it when I was younger, but now I'm happy to have a unique name.

    @marionberry: Same here! We love the name 'Emma' and now it's number one.

    Top 5 for sure. My name is mispronounced and misspelled allllll the time.

    Being outside of the top 500 is a criterion for me! I love me some unique names.

    Unique. Def a. Critera for the us when choosing names. My sons names.isn't I'm the top 1000 on the ss website and I like that. Its unique but not to out here or hard to say/spell

  26. travelgirl1

    Definitely unique

    Unique. There's plenty of "normal" names in the 500-1000 range.

  28. JessKas

    Unique! We sought out names that weren't in the top 100. I don't want my kids to be "first name, last initial" forever.

  29. tlcbaby

    nectarine / 2750 posts

    Unique, but now I've just realized that I have never looked up any of our top choices to find out!

    Our girl names are not even in the top 1,000 according to the SSA website and our boy names are actually pretty popular.

  30. Arden

    honeydew / 7589 posts

    Unique. Most of the names on our list are not in the top 500.

  31. Smurfette

    Top 5. Afraid the unique would be too unique.

  32. 808love

    Unique. @nana87: I loved Rosalie too but I couldn't get hubby's consent back in 2010. @marionberry I loved Avery many moons ago as well.

    I say Unique, but I ended up naming my baby Lily so that's probably close to top 5.

  34. lilyann

    Unique but not too unique
