We plan to have baby girl sleep in our room for the first month or two (we have a rock n play) instead of in her nursery (which is right next door to our bedroom). I'm wondering if I should be setting up a changing station in our bedroom - or if going to her room for middle of the night changes is no big deal? We don't have a chair in the bedroom - when you breastfed during the night did you do it in bed or get up and go elsewhere in your house? Just trying to figure out logistics. Thanks!

Our LO is still sleeping in our room at 11 weeks (he will be moving next weekend) and we have always changed him in his room (right next to ours). I always nurse him in the living room/his nursery so we are getting up and leaving the room anyways so it makes sense to just change his diaper is his room. I don't think you need a changing station.

I had an arm's reach co-sleeper, so I just changed him in that. Otherwise, I'd just change him on the bed in front of me with a changing pad.
I also nursed him in bed. I propped myself up with pillows and used a Boppy. It wasn't too bad. The hard part was his complete inability to sleep unless he was in my arms, which means mama didn't sleep at all!

We liked a changing table at the foot of the bed. Also a Baggie for the dirty diapers. It felt like such work to get up out of bed lol

When they're that small, I found it pretty easy to change them on any surface, like our bed, as long as I put a changing pad or flannel under them. We had a p&p with a changing station in our room, too, though.

She slept in a PNP and I nursed in bed. I did diaper changes (the first month) in her room.

We had the same set up at first. DH would change her in the nursery and then bring her back to me to feed her in bed. It was nice to have the chair, etc in the nursery so that when she was fussy one parent could be in there with her and the other could (try to) nap.

@Alexandra603: we had her in a cradle in our room for the first 3 weeks. We set up a little change station at the foot of our bed. I'd take her to the living room to sit on the couch and feed her, she'd fall asleep, I'd rock a few minutes then bring her back to cradle. After a few weeks I found myself not able to sleep well due to all the newborn noises so we transitioned her to her crib.

We put diapers and all changing supplies in our bedroom and a few extra jammies. My sister said taking them from room to room at night will confuse their night and day sleep. I don't know how true that is but we never took him out of our room at night during wake ups and he STTN at 8 weeks.
It could be a coincidence but that is our experience!

She slept in a bassinet right next to the bed & I had a drawer in my nightstand with diapers & emergency pjs & just changed her on the bed. I was in no way going to actually get out of bed to do anything

I am impressed that so many people change nappies on the bed - my DS had quite a range when exposed to the air and I was not very good at catching it in the early days! Agree it wakes them up more to be taken to another room, but if you can keep it dark or very dim I found that helped.
I fed in bed in the early days, but found I kept falling asleep sat upright, so started feeding downstairs with the telly on - very bad for keeping the baby sleepy! Now I feed in a glider chair in our room and concentrate very hard on staying awake!

We have a makeshift changing station on a dresser in our room. Definitely a lifesaver in the middle of the night. We also keep burp cloths, extra change of clothes, extra swaddles and extra pacifiers next to it on the dresser. I breastfeed them on a love seat in our room. I am really paranoid about bringing them into bed with us, so I never do that in the middle of the night. The love seat also provides better back support for me than our bed for feeding and pumping. If they need extra rocking to get to sleep, we will take them to the nursery. But I've found the love seat does the trick just fine. My dog might disagree, as that's where he sleeps and he keeps getting displaced!

I took her out of the room to nurse and diaper change. Wasn't big deal for me. Also, hubby and I did shift with baby, so I didn't want to wake him when it was his time to sleep.

LO slept in our room for 6 months. DH would get up to change her to give me a few more minutes to sleep. We did changes in her room. Then I would get up and feed her in the living room. It was more comfortable for me and then DH was able to go back to bed. You just have to see what feels right. I thought I would feed LO in her nursery but in 16 months I can count on two hands the amount of times I have!

We had the PnP in our room for diaper changes. Then she slept in the RnP.

We had a changing station attachment for our pnp that we used. Except motn wake ups rarely involve a changing cause we only change for poop. He would wake up, nurse, and go eight back to sleep. So now he's in our room still in the pnp but I just take him to his room if there's a need for a change. His room isn't that far.

I think this is one of the things that largely depends on the mom and the baby, you'll see what works best for you. In our case, I felt like I should go do diaper changes and feedings in the nursery because my DH would wake up, and since he was working 10+ hour days I felt bad having him wake up every time the baby woke up. On the other hand, sometimes it seemed to stimulate baby more to carry him to a different room and such - but some babies aren't bothered by it. I ended up sleeping on the couch with LO in his Rock n Play next to me and a change station nearby, and would feed him on the couch too.

We made a changing station on top of our dresser and put our glider in our bedroom. With my first I nursed in bed and had a lot of back pain so the glider worked much better for me.

With my first child, his room was across hall and he was in the crib--al changes in his room. I said screw that for the second child-her crib is in our room, but she's alwYs slept in bed with me and I put her changing pad on the dresser along with all her other stuff.

I would! That is to say, I would prepare for everything. I had her crib next to me on my side of the bed, a changing station in our room and a chair to nurse.

We took her to the nursery to change her and I really regretted not seeing up a change station in our room. Not so much for her sleep but I found it hard to get back to sleep after walking around the house in the middle of the night.
I ended up buying a change pad that could be fixed to the top of our dresser so she could be changed in our room and left some supplies in the drawers.

We have an Arms Reach Cosleeper. I stuff the pockets with wipes, a changing pad, extra clothes and bibs. When he wakes I grab him up and breastfeed on the bed, do changes on the bed, rock him back to sleep on the bed and then put him back in the Cosleeper. I don't need to leave our room unless he's really fussy and needs to be walked to sleep or we're trying not to wake DH. Then I would take him to the nursery. We use a nightlight that could also play music so we can glance at him during the night, and the tunes sometimes calm him.

We have our lo in a pack n play that has a bassinet and changing surface attachments LOVE IT. Then we have a basket of diapering supplies and burp cloths there too. And I did move a chair into our room to nurse in. I can't get that comfy nursing in bed.

This is what I did and I don't recommend it. Nurse him on the floor with a boppy pillow and another pillow, while I leaned uncomfortably against the wall. Then I changed him on a portable changing pad on the floor or couch--in a different room because I worried about waking my husband.
Next time I will get a cosleeper crib, and change him/her in there on a changing pad. I will nurse in bed if I can, though newborn nursing is harder, so I also plan to get a glider/rocking chair for me (and the boppy pillow).
