What is your favorite white elephant gift? DH's family is doing a white elephant for the adults. The parameters are: $40 max, no gag gifts, no gift cards.

So hard not knowing your crowd. Pre covid we generally had to participate in 3-5 of these a year and took very different types of gifts to each one. But here are some we have purchased or received that were hits and are $40 or under:

Yeti or similar water bottle or mug, typically would dump some candy in it.

I tend to stick with consumable stuff, like sets of spices, hot sauces, honeys, tea/coffee/chai, popcorn, infused oil olives, etc.
For a mixed-age group white elephant with extended family this year though, we're giving a small set of the tegu magnetic wooden blocks. My kids love playing with them, and I've found my husband absentmindedly building with them once the kids have gone to bed...so I figure it might appeal to multiple audiences.

I usually give things I'd be happy to get back (and often will do so).
Our limit is under $20 but here are some things I've given:
A Contigo mug w/ fancy hot chocolate and/or m&ms
A Stocking cap for winter - CC, Luv your Melon, or Carhart
A nice throw blanket
A fun party game - I want to get Incohearant this year!

I agree with something you'd like to end up with. Ideas you haven't already gotten - a nice bottle of wine and chocolates? A pair of cozy slippers, maybe a "relax" basket with bubble bath/bath salts, a scented candle, and an eye mask, or a Christmas decoration for the home.
