Eta: I'm one of 5 and I know a lot of families of 4 or 5, so I guess I don't think of those as "big," lol.

I used to babysit for a family with seven!! My mom's mom (and aunt) both had 10. My aunt who married into the family was one of 13! The largest families I know of now with young kids has four. They went for "one more" and had twins.

@Honeybee: woah.
I know someone who recently moved to PA who had triplets, then a single. They're the only people I know who have 4 or more.

My grandmother was one of 12. The youngest is only a year older than my dad would be (if he were alive).
I have two cousins that have 6 kids each. One is saying she might have another...the cousins are siblings. But in their culture, the older kids are like second parents (this is the family I have that are like amish people). The oldest kids help with farming, do a lot of the cooking, do the cleaning, etc.
When we were there for Christmas, one of the oldest girls was "being rebellious" by "purposely making the bread slowly". We'd all met up at my aunt's house for lunch (and my aunt is their grandma), but the oldest girl didn't come and when I asked why, her mom said she was being punished for purposely making the bread slowly, so they left her at home.
Her weekly Saturday chore is to make all the bread for the week from scratch. They make all their foods from scratch (no processed anything) and she's supposed to make loaf bread, homeade English muffins, and either rolls or biscuits each Saturday.
I thought it was awesome. Those kids are being raised right, in my opinion.

I don't really know any with more than 3.
DHs grandparents are both from families of 11-12 kids, but I think that wasn't so uncommon 85 years ago!

I know two girls from high school with 5 and 6 kids, no multiples. 1 is divorced and the other is single/never married. I can't imagine raising that many kids on your own!

My former college roommate has 4 kids. She got pregnant and married right after college ended. She's got the most kids of anyone I know from high school or college.

I knew a family growing up that had something like 14 kids-- they were still adding to the family when I left town for college and stopped keeping track (one of the older ones was in my grade).
My mom is one of 6 (would have been 7, one passed away at a few days old). I'm one of 5. Of friends with young kids, I think so far the most is 3 kids-- two different families both just had their third this year. At least one of them will probably keep going, they always wanted a big family. Both families have 3 boys.

I know quite a few families with 4 kids and three of my friends have 5 kids.
Larger families seem to be a lot more common around here than where I'm from. I don't know anyone "back home" with more than 2.

Oh wow. Somehow this thread totally has me feeling stressed out! I can barely manage two kids...kudos to the parents with more!
I have a friend with 4, and I knew a couple of families growing up with 5. But that's about it.
