DH and I have packed on the newlywed pounds, and we've both reached our point of freak out. We're thinkin of doing one of the lower carb diets.
Have any of you had long-term success with goin low carb? I'd love up hear everyone's experience!

i was forced to go low-carb because of GD and man... it works! I only gained 25 lbs with my first pregnancy and am on track to do the same with this pregnancy. There would be NO WAY I could maintain 25 lbs without going low-carb.

Same as @banana here! I never tried a low carb diet (I'm asian, so no rice and noodles was just a non-negotiable!) and had success with a low cal diet (Weight Watchers), but as soon as I fell off the wagon (heh) it all came back within a year. By staying low-carb (and not even strictly so) and managing portion sizes, ever since I started the GD diet around the beginning of the third trimester I've only gained about 5 lbs. 30 lbs total and hoping to stay there until the end of the pregnancy 3 weeks from now!

I did for my wedding and kept it off for years...then I got pregnant... and it did not work for losing baby weight. Dunno why, but I feel like I had done it for so long previously that it had no effect on my body anymore.

I've lost a ton of weight going low carb in the past. Here's a great overview of low-glycemic diets versus other types of diets (I prefer that to Atkins or Zone):

I'm actually going "slow carb" right now, which is going really well. More info here:

I gave up carbs when we got engaged and the weight melted off. I had tried eating healthy with carbs and exercise and even though i was trim I still has problem areas. But when I gave up carbs those problem areas disappeared for the fist time in my life. I was under a 100 lbs in high school and never got back under a 100 until I gave up carbs.
My husband has been doing low carb since April and he has lost 30 lbs. he basically doesn't eat any carbs except for vegetables and even then he limits the amount of green beans he eats. I still eat some carbs but I limit them too...and I am at 107 lbs (I gained about 50 lbs during my pregnancy)

When I cut wheat out completely for a month I lost 7 lbs. Just wheat. No carbs for breakfast.

Thanks, everyone! We're going to give it a try and see if we can make some big changes in our carb-loving life!

My mil has had great success with her low carb diet. She lost 15-20 pounds and has maintained it for 3 years.
