Ugh I do and didn't have the foresight to take it off ahead of time, so I'm sure the max amount of nurses have already taken it off.
How about you?

I don't work, but DH has had to work the last two years on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Definitely no fun.

@Boogs: I work Christmas next year holidays are fair though, we work only two holidays a year and they rotate so you'll only work every third Christmas.

I worked the day after thanksgiving and Christmas Eve last year I'm off a whole week for both this year though!! Yay!

I SAH, but DH always has to work the Friday after thanksgiving (as well as the Saturday and Sunday). Also Christmas Eve, and typically the day after Christmas. As long as he stays with his current company that will be the case. It means we never travel to see family for the actual holidays.

I've got the day after thanksgiving and Christmas Eve this year. Hospitals never close...but DS will only be one so he won't know and I'll be off the hook for a couple years.

@Mrs. Pen: That is a fair deal! Still never fun when it's your turn.

I normally would, but this year I'm taking that as my vacation week and we're spending the holiday with my family in Florida.

I do, but can request off. I think my boss automatically assumes I will even though I haven't submitted the request yet.

My husband usually takes off since he does not get it off. I feel like this year will be tough, his boss usually makes him work extra hours on holiday weeks so I don't think he'll like an extra day off on top of a holiday.

I normally do but I took a vacation day because my kids daycare is closed.

I've photographed families those days when people are all together. It's no fun and I don't do it anymore!
DH has to work Christmas this year and he's worked Thanksgiving in the past.

I don't. I work for the state and am in a union. Used to be (well before I started) that we worked the day after Thanksgiving but got off on Good Friday. At some point the unions bargained to have off the day after T-day instead of Good Fri, so we'd have a 4 day weekend, probably. We go out of town for Thanksgiving so I love it!

I get the day after T-day off, plus the week of Christmas. IMO, this should be standard for most professionals that aren't in critical positions.
