I am currently 23 weeks pregnant and already starting to worry about planning for baby showers. So far, I only have one friend who is planning to give me a baby shower. Is it appropriate for my mother to give me a baby shower? I know she is willing, but does that look bad? Or, could/should she ask one of her 3 sisters to host one? If not, does that mean I need to invite all of my out of town family and friends to the one baby shower?

I think it's OK for anyone except for the couple to throw the shower-- although it might be a Miss Manners faux pas to have a relative host.
If you're "only" having one shower, then yes, you would give your entire guest list to the host and she would send invites to everyone.

Almost every baby shower I've ever been to has been thrown by the mom, and I never thought it was out of the ordinary. A few others were thrown by siblings or it was a work shower.
Just recently, I read online that it isn't proper etiquette to have your mom host a baby shower. The things you learn on the internet! I totally disagree.

DH's aunt just hosted his sister's baby shower last month. She's also having a second shower this month hosted by the baby's father's mother for his side of thefamily.
Even though it's not the Emily Post way, I wouldn't think twice about a mom hosting a baby shower for her daughter. Seems logical to me, and I've been to plenty of them hosted by the mom.

I'm "only" having one shower as well & am just inviting everyone to it. we don't have a big family, my friends are people that we go to church with mostly, & my work will have a seperate shower at work, so I think that 1 shower would work out best. there are 5 ladies all co-hosting it, so I hope things are going smoothly on their end, but I think that it's also a positive to just have to worry about going to 1 shower & be able to get all the thank you notes over at once.

We will probably have one big family/hometown friends shower, and my work will throw one after the baby is born. I am not sure who will step up to throw the family shower (I would guess it will be 1 of my aunts), but I am only 19 weeks now, so there is lots of time for that to get figured out.

My mom, sil, and sister threw mine.

My SIL, MIL and aunt-in-law threw mine since my friends and family live in CA.

I think anyone can throw you one. My mom did my first one, and my SIL along with some help from one of my friends is doing this one.

My mom and sis threw mine. All the ones I have been to were thrown by a relative.

I don't understand why there is all this stress about showers. If you're not sure, just buy what you need and have a party to introduce the baby.

I think it's fine for a parent to throw the shower especially if there are no other family members or close friends nearby. I did hear about a couple recently who threw their own shower and I thought that was very odd...imo, if you don't have someone to throw your shower, you don't have one.

i threw my SIL's and she's throwing mine. i was going to opt for not having one, but she and my bro insisted.

For my cousin (who was my maid of honor), Her mom, my mom and I are throwing her shower, and we're having it at her mom's house. In my family, its usually a surprise so we're having trouble with figuring out which of her friends to invite and their addresses

Honestly, anyone who want to throw you one should. It seems silly that there's so many rules for things like this.

I don't think it is inappropriate at all for family members to through your shower (mom, sisters, ect.) In my family the sisters/sister in laws throw the baby shower, but the mom always helps out with the funding of it. I have never thought anything about it, just showed the family was excited!

I was raised by a very etiquette focused mom who thought family members throwing a shower was in poor taste. It makes me sad because I know my mom would throw me the best shower, and I know that she won't! Unless we make some great friends by the time we have a baby, I don't know who would have a shower for us sadly
