@snowjewelz: I have come extremely close to legit crying. I cannot believe this. How do we explain this to our children?

  8. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@Foodnerd81: I'm just glad mine is too young to know what's going on for now!

@Foodnerd81: @snowjewelz: I literally never could have imagined I'd be bringing a child into a world where Trump was our president.

@IRunForFun: I think that is the perfect line to end this thread on. I'm going to bed before it actually happens. One last night...

    I'm disgusted at America.

I just read that according to exit poll data, the gender gap is the widest it's been in decades - women supported Clinton by a 12% margin but men supported Trump by a 12% margin. Beyond trade, immigration, etc, I feel like maybe America (especially men in America) just wasn't ready for a woman president

I grew up in the rural south and was constantly taught that God intends women to submit, that they aren't supposed to hold leadership roles, etc, so sadly it doesn't surprise me. I just hope that nothing really, really awful happens during the next 4 years, I can't help thinking about Europe in the 1930s...

@periwinklebee: I saw non college educated women still voted Trump 62%.

  17. catomd00

    grapefruit / 4418 posts

@periwinklebee: agreed. I think if all else were held constant, but HRC was a man she would have won much more easily. Still holding out hope she can pull it out!

@periwinklebee: I think people are ready for a female president but that Hilary Clinton isnt the right female at this time. She's unfortunately had such a hard time with trust and likeability.

  19. Foodnerd81

    wonderful cherry / 21504 posts

@agold: I agree. People just hate her too much. Not only because she's a woman (but of course that is part of it).

  20. catomd00

    grapefruit / 4418 posts

@agold: I also agree with this. It feels like she's just been held to a different standard than any other candidate this election.

  21. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

@Foodnerd81: Yes, definitely true that tons of women voted for him, but still a pretty dramatic gender split overall, if exit polls are accurate.

@agold: I'd like to be wrong and think it was just about her and not more general cultural values, the former doesn't really square with my experience, but who knows....

Anybody remember the Simpsons episode from the early 1990s where Lisa Simpson becomes president after President Trump bankrupts America? Hoping there's a Lisa Simpson waiting in the ranks for 2020.

@Pumpkin Pie: it's almost like I can't accept losing but not him being president. Will the White House be gilded and given a Trump stamp?

It's 11:30 out here in AZ and I think I just gave up hope. I have to get up for work in 7 hours and baby is going to wake up twice in that time I'm sure, so...... ugh.

@lamariniere: I have not been more embarrassed to be American than I am this morning. The Mexican currency reportedly plummeted, the Swedish currency is expected to go down (since it does whenever there's uncertainty). I am speechless. I'm afraid this will be the start of the de-unification of the USA. It makes sense: individual states have little in common, similar to the different EU countries. I'm preparing for scary times ahead
