Mostly just a rant.. we've decided to buy a toddler Tula for LO (26 lbs, 14 months). I cannot BELIEVE that the cheapest used one I've seen was $160 shipped - when they are $169 brand new shipped!
Anyone else Tula shopping?

I've noticed the same thing! I live in San Diego and they're incredibly popular here. On the positive side, you might be able to sell it for what you paid! {{also, have you seen how expensive the wrap conversion ones are? they're beautiful, but yikes.}}

@rrachael: No joke!! One was just listed on the Tula BST for $1,000. A GRAND! It's just plain old stripes, too, not even a fancy wrap.

You could never find them used around here. I have an Olives and Applesauce carrier which is pretty similar, but I was thinking of getting a Tula as well. I used my carrier every day and I thought it would be nice to have a change every few days. I love the designs of the Tula. I'm debating between the Tula and a SewFunky ring sling.

@scg00387: why tula instead of the boba? is it that much better?

@Arden: I just cannot compute in my head! Someone local offered to sell me hers... For $10 more than online retail!
@birdofafeather: I love the boba, he is just outgrowing it. He's far from knee to knee any more and I don't care for the foot straps. The toddler Tula should fit him better for longer. I know there are other toddler carriers but this is the only one I was able to try on in person.

It's because they're so popular. That's really the only reason. And until recently, few stores carried them. I imagine that the resale for canvas Tulas will decrease before too long. As for the conversions, well, Tula is the only one that does them. They're not custom (you can't send in a wrap), so they're all HTF. Maybe check out a KP? I haven't used one, but they seem quite similar from what people have told me.

I want one for baby #2 in a couple of years! Can't justify it right now since I have a perfectly good ergo.

@Weagle: Yeah, I get the WC prices (sort of). I am ordering a new toddler one, and am excited! I just wish I could've found a deal on a used one. I haven't been able to try a Kinderpack on, so I'd rather just go with what I know will work
@sslm: Yeah, I love our Boba but my tank has outgrown it!

This is one of the things about babywearing that drives me absolutely nuts. This is supposed to be a natural practice as old as history!! Not more expensive than buying a stroller!! (And this is coming from a babywearer....) I live in Mexico and I see indigenous people begging on the street, wearing babies on their backs, fronts and sides. You can bet they didn't pay $1000 for that crap. Sorry, rant over and not directed at anyone in particular!! Just the babywearing industrial complex.

@mamimami: I hope someone stages an intervention before I ever get to the point of paying that much! It is crazy how expensive it can be.

Is it that different from a Beco? That is what we got, but I haven't used it yet since I'm still preggers.

@ElbieKay: Same style in that they are both soft structured carriers, but different features. The main difference I noticed between my Tula and Beco is that the body of the Tula is designed for extended wearing. My LO outgrew the Beco around a year, but still fits in the standard sized Tula fairly well at 20 months. Both have their merits, but I definitely prefer my Tula.

I have a Tula Toddler carrier and it hurt to spend the money. It really did. But it doesn't hurt when I'm wearing my toddler on my back and we're out and about. I am personally not into all the wraps because I'm honestly too lazy or don't want to take the time to learn how to use all that crap. This is easy peasy, pop it on, throw my kid in it, and snap. We are paying for convenience and cute prints, that's about it!

@ElbieKay: Different than the Beco. I liked my Beco but only up until LO was about 10 months, then it stopped being comfortable for me.
