no! I don't even want a tv in my own bedroom. dh had one in his though growing up, so he probably won't mind it? and now with ipads and such, lo will have access to other screens anyway...I guess we'll cross that bridge with lo when she's old enough to ask. I just think it'd be such a distraction though. I had a roommate in college who literally needed to watch a movie while falling asleep, and it drove me absolutely insane. (and then she'd give me grief for staying up late to write papers and complain that the glare from my computer was keeping her up--the hypocrisy killed me!)

Nope nope nope. We don't have a TV in our bedroom either.

Maybe once they're big - like, 14? I had a tv in my room through high school and it was great, both for me and for my parents, who didn't have to watch Dawson's Creek or sit through my Mighty Ducks 2 obsession.

If he wants one, doesn't bother me at all.

My step daughter got one in her room for her 12th birthday but it's not hooked up to cable, so she can just watch bluerays/dvds on it, and she uses it for her wii.
I would probably do the same for DS/DD when they're older - 12 its probably a good year to stick with.
It comes in handy when she has sleep overs especially! I'd rather have 5 girls contained to her room than to our living room.

ETA: If we ever get our basement finished with a 2nd tv in the family room then I don't think he/she would need a tv in the room. Right now it's either the living room or our bedroom.

No, I don't believe in that. But it's becoming a moot point, honestly. I gave my old phone to my kindergartner to use for audiobooks and watching videos. She still has to ask about videos and only gets them in limited amount, but if she wants quiet time, she takes it into her room and shuts the door. So it's happening anyway.

No. We plan to make TV time family time. I'm sure my kid will own some device he can view shows on anyway.

Since we don't have a TV in our whole house, no way. I'm not even sure what we'll do about computers/laptops/tablets in bedrooms when they are older.

Meh....I'm not opposed to it, but I'm also not going to push for one in there either. Not until they're at least pre-teens, I'd say.

No. I had one in my room during high school, and as a result I read a lot less and watched way more junky tv. It also enabled me to procrastinate my homework which resulted in me staying up too late to finish.

Nope. My husband had one growing up but I never did. I don't see a need.

Once they hit the teenage years I'm not that opposed to it. But we have a finished basement with a couch and at some point we'll probably put a tv down there so the kids have a tv and video game space. I always had access to a tv and it never really affected me much. I was an active kid that spent pretty much every school night at practice for various sports and I was a voracious reader.

Growing up my parents watched tv in the living room, I watched upstairs in bedroom we had with a couch and tv, and my brother watched in the finished basement. I'd prefer us to have more togetherness than that, but there comes a point when kids have their own shows they're interested in.

I don't think so. I never had a TV in my room growing up mainly because we couldn't afford one in every room. My brothers did only when my older brother got a job and bought one for himself...so well into high school.

Like others have said, things will be far different for this generation. Tablets and phones will overtake the need for TVs in their rooms.

We had the same setup as @Truth Bombs where there were separate tvs for adults and kids but they were both in common areas. We'll probably do the same eventually,

@MenagerieMama: This. Even when we replace our TV this year, it isn't going in our room, we'll be donating it.

My family's policy, and probably eventually my own, is that anything connected to the internet (tvs, computers, game systems), is limited to shared family spaces and the wifi intentionally doesn't reach the bedrooms. My siblings and I had too many workarounds for my Dad to keep up with when the computer was in the basement. So they moved the computer to the family room and the basic rule was you had to be comfortable watching it/playing it with your family looking over your shoulder.

DH had one growing up and now can't fall asleep without watching a show. I didn't and honestly wish we didn't have one in our bedroom now! I will push hard to keep TVs our of our kids' bedrooms.

DD actually has one in her room, however it only has a Google Chromecast connected to it, which needs one of our phones (or our tablet) to turn on a show. we did it hoping it would keep her in her bed at bedtime/nap time but it did not work.

So far, we are in the no camp.
