I had mine removed right after I had DS 8 years ago. 3rd day is the worst otherwise it's not too terrible...... My experience might be biased though since I was only a few weeks out from my emergency cesarean. lol

You'll look like a chipmunk for a few days and while you're kind of on a liquid diet, no straws! Also, putting wet tea bags over the holes help with the bleeding!

I had all 4 of mine taken out about a year and a half ago. Not gonna lie-- it sucked, but only for a short time. Keep in mind I have never had any anesthesia before, so some of it was just that in general. Mine weren't quite impacted but they were still a little hard to get out, I guess. The first couple of days they were just really sore-- not full on pain, just achey all the time. They did give me my choice of pain meds though, which was nice. By a week later I was almost normal though, just only eating very soft foods. I had an ice pack on my face 24/7 for the first day or two, though, because I really didn't want to puff up too bad and I really didn't get too swollen. My little sister did the same thing and had total chipmunk face, so I guess it is just luck.
The thing that really got me was they kept telling me it was worse after you're 30-- I had just turned 30 when I had it done. I was like, should I have come in 2 months ago? What's your point here?
Just make sure he goes to a real oral surgeon, not a regular dentist.

I had all four of mine removed (they hadn't even come in yet) during high school for braces. They ddin't put me under, but I did get laughing gas and novacaine.

I was swollen for a couple days; but didnt feel too much pain; never had to fill my Rx.

I had all four of mine taken out at once two years ago and recovery wasn't that bad. I definitely appreciated being out of it for the surgery. Lots of soft foods for the first few days. I remember being absolutely ravenous by the time the third day was over.

I have five (yes five) removed when I was 23. I went out for wings and beer that night and bruised a little bit on the third day following surgery, it was a pretty low key experience, I know I was lucky!

I had all 3 taken out at 26. It wasn't too bad for me except that at 4 days after when things were supposed to be pretty healed, something popped and I gushed blood so bad I went to the ER. It eventually stopped, but they had no idea what happen or where it came from, cause the stitches were still in tact. On the bright side I lost 7 lbs since I ended up too scared to eat for another week.

i had all four out when i was 20...i only suffered the first two days...but that was beacuse i couldnt it and i have a jacked up jaw that locks...and it did, a lot, during that time...

I had all four out the summer after junior year of college. I don't remember the recovery being tooo awful. I didn't change my gauze though--my mom did that for me I didn't swell or anything, and I barely took any of the Vicodin that they gave me afterwards.

@MrsCastro: I have TMJ issues too! It normally unlocks on its own after sometime, but once it didn't unlock so I had to have surgery to have it unlocked. That sucked major!!!

P.S. Can we quit being so similar already?! Haha!

I just had mine out a couple weeks ago! I'm 26. My bottom ones were impacted and horizontal (!!) and my top were just normal. Apparently horizontal wisdom teeth run in my family because my Mom and Brother both had horizontal ones. I also had an additional molar taken out because it had basically rotted out and they couldn't save it.

So 5 teeth in total. The recovery wasn't too bad. I was under general anesthetic. The worst part was the gauze! I just wanted it out so badly so I could move my mouth normally again. DH did the gauze changes for me. I ate lots of yogurt, soup, and over cooked mac and cheese. I was very thankful for real food a week later. My pain wasn't too bad, probably because I was used to pain since I had a toothache for the week before the surgery. I just took my awesome pain killers.

I had mine out at 29. The dentist told me it was worse to do it later because the roots grow so much deeper. In fact, I opted to leave one tooth in because it was growing so close to the nerve that it could have caused paralysis in my face. But no one told me why it was bad to wait!!! Anyways, I couldn't afford to be put completely under but they gave me some stuff that made me loopy. I was still awake but it kind of made time go by faster. The extraction was pretty normal and recovery was about a week. Eating soft food for a week feels like forever though.

((shudders)) this thread is totally eeking me out... ugh. I never had my teeth pulled and lately I've had some pain and I think I can feel a couple of them coming in. We will be getting dental come January so I'll probably get them pulled sometime next year and sooo not looking forward to it.

Do you guys recommend going all the way under? Or just general anesthetic?

I will have to do it on a Thursday/Friday so my hubby can take care of me and baby all weekend lol

@Grace: ugh dental ins doesn't cover it?!? nooooooo!! I'm gonna die. I freakin hate the dentist.

I had mine taken out in phases at 24-26. My first 3 was an easy recovery, I was back to normal and eating pizza the next day. Last one however was brutal, the trauma/stress of getting it removed triggered shingles on my face and mouth on the side where the tooth was removed. I was easily out of commission for a week from all the pain. All of my wisdom teeth were impacted.

I had mine removed earlier this year. All four were impacted and they put me under completely. During recovery I was never in any pain. The first two days I was very swollen and I had bruises on my cheeks for a week or more. My doctor said I bruised so bad because my skin is so fair. I had a cashier at the grocery store ask if I was being abused and if there was someone she could call. She didn't believe me when I said the bruises were from having surgery.

I had to have mine removed surgically, they were not only impacted, but the roots were wrapped around the nerves, so the oral surgeon had to literally crack my teeth and pull them out in pieces.

He said I healed beautifully, I had all 4 done at one time because I had to be completely out for the affair.
