WOHM/WAHM what is the most # of kids you want to have? Just curious, daycare is a fortune where we live. And we also plan on paying for college, nice family vacations, etc. I think the most we could reasonably afford to have and me continue to work is 3. What about you?

DCP is $$ here too - if we had 3 a Nanny would actually be cheaper!
However, I love having just 2 - 2 parents and 2 kids, no extra kids to worry about - haha

We are currently in the one and done camp.

I am in the 2 is better camp- but I think DH is in the 1 and done. We were having a hear tot heart about I the other night- and he said he just cant imagine loving another baby/child as much as he loves DS (of course I reassured him he would) but he seemed skeptical!

Daycare is so expensive here that with 2 kids it's a break even on a nanny, so we're (hopefully) going big with 4 kids! May as well, right?

We are either one and done or two max. I think we want another but will be waiting another year or so to have a 3 years between.

If we are talking strictly daycare costs at our current daycare we can have four and still comfortably afford to send them to daycare and I still work. But the bigger picture for me is if I didn't work we will lose free family health insurance. And that is WAY more than daycare!

3-4 if finances permit, which I doubt they will. I could potentially pick up a part time evenings position at work which would eliminate our need for daycare.

We can afford 1 in daycare and do all the things we want to do with our lives (this includes with and for our child). We don't qualify for subsidies and we don't have relatives nearby who are daycare for us.
@Mamaof2: yes! Around here, I'm pretty sure a nanny would be the same cost as 2 in daycare. Crazy.

we are done after 2. even after daycare costs would be over, I think about everything beyond that - sports, vacations, college, etc. And I like the man-to-man defense with 2!

Right now I'd like two although I just get so scared even thinking about another one. I'm still leaning towards two, but I could possibly convinced to just have one.

I think we can reasonably do two kids in our city. I don't want more than two kids. I've always envisioned two and through.

@BKCaribBaby: Ditto. I've always wanted 2 but I could be one and done. I had a nightmare that I died from a 2nd c-section recently, so yeah...not really looking forward to that.

@littlek: I am answering because the main reason I am a SAHM is because I am purseuing my degree. Once I finish, I'll be a WOHM for the rest of my kids (hence why I an TTC right now while i'm still home).
Anway---because E is staying with me until pre-k, we can swing 3 more. We could do more...but that'd cut into vacations and all other qualities of life. I don't know which is more important to me yet, 4-5 kids or 3-4 kids and more advantages. I am leaning towards just 3-4 for reasons that have nothing to do with finances to be honest, like difficulty of TTC and the fact that I want to be done with pregnancies by the time I am 30 years old.

I put three because we talk about three sometimes. but two is more realistic financially, in the long term. I think daycare would be ok because you can space them so #1 is in kindergarten by the time #3 enters daycare, but that doesn't help with all the vacations and activities and such. we don't live near any of our family and flying 5 people anywhere would be insane (even 3 is tough to swallow as we pass the 2-year lap child mark)

We want 2. Granted I am going to have work just pay day care instead of me, but in the long run it is still better for me to work.

@littlek: I think 3. I think three we can comfortably still be able to do everything we want to for our family.
Personally, I don't count college tuition as a factor in deciding how many kids.

3. We're lucky to have lots of family nearby and DH will likely be advancing in his career in the next few years. Otherwise, we would probably stop at 2.

I always thought 3 but we've talked 2 or even just stopping with R because daycare is outrageous. As a teacher, 2 in FT daycare is basically my salary.
I tell my dad/stepmom I'm not having any more kids until they move here so my stepmom can watch them. And I'm only half joking.

@Mrs. Taco: not to threadjack but for future reference, is having a nanny sometimes just cheaper than putting 2 or more kids in daycare? I wonder this all the time. As a future school social worker, 2 kids in daycare is my salary too.

@CupQuakeWalk: It depends on the age, a nanny is definitely cheaper for 2 infants than daycare.

We want 3 or 4. We can afford 2 in daycare right now, but we're also just starting our careers. Hopefully by the time we're ready for #2 or #3 we'll have had some promotions!

At the HS I work at, teachers can bring their children to the school daycare (the juniors/seniors along with the teachers, watch the children) once they are potty trained for a very small fee. We will be waiting until R can join this before #2. I think.

We could afford to have more children, but we're one and done largely because we're older.

I think we'll probably have 2. If we were going strictly on what we COULD do I guess maybe 3? We could swing that if we spaced them out enough that #1 was in kindergarden when #3 was born and went into daycare. Plus we have a 4 bedroom house and I wouldn't want anyone sharing so that would sort of be the max.
