@Mrs. Lion: I think dresses, even with leggings, would be too difficult to move around comfortably in.

@looch: Preferably, yes. Some patients may be on contact precautions, and many have wounds, so whatever I wear will be washed a lot. I do love athleta, one of my favorite places to shop. @Mrs. Champagne: thank you!! It is a tricky dress code - because it's kind of not much to go off of. And I can't just observe what the other nurses are wearing.

@Anagram: I have had my eye on those for awhile!! I might have to try them.

@Mrs. Tiger: I found a couple brands that actually make cute scrubs - but they don't make tall sizes my options are limited even with scrubs because I need a longer inseam.

@pastemoo: greys anatomy was the brand of my school scrubs and I hated them haha! I'm not saying they don't look professional at all though. They're the "uniform" for nurses. I'm also not opposed to wearing them (I will order a couple pairs), but I like options and my preceptor doesn't wear scrubs either.

@Anagram: if you work with just one patient for 8-12 hours a day, that's called privacy duty nursing. I am doing home health care, which is seeing multiple patients a day for 1-2 hours each. The majority of our patient population is elderly, in the same way most med-surg floors consist of patients aged 60+, however we provide services to adults of any age, so we have a few patients here and there who might be in their 20's or 30's. We are a short-term agency, meaning our main goal is rehab. We want to get patients back to their optimal level of functioning. The nice thing about my agency is that it is with the largest healthcare organization in my state, they have four hospitals, almost 30 clinics, rehab, and home health. So it's very reputable, great benefits, etc. we do provide home health aide services as well, in addition to rehab (PT/OT). But of course their duties are different from mine.

I'm wondering if maybe your grandparents had a PCA? They tend to be more long-term, and private pay. Most of our client base are Medicare patients.

The hours are really what made me want to do this- Monday-Friday, 9-5 essentially. Only one weekend a month and one night on call per month. I'm so glad I don't have to start out on nights like most nurses do.
