I've hosted work showers before for coworkers, and I'll speak on behalf of your secretaries when I say a thank-you gift is totally not necessary. Just a hand-written thank-you note would be appropriate.

If you really really really want to get them something, go with something small that they can carry home from work with them - chocolates, wine, etc. One person got me a specialized kind of tea since I looove tea, so something like that would be appropriate too, if you know their tastes!

I gave my work shower hostesses thank you cards and that's it. I've hosted showers before and didn't expect anything (though a thank you card is always nice!).

I gave thank you notes.

I think thank yous are good for work parties. It's not like they had to clean their house in order to host it there. Or (most likely) pay for the refreshments and decorations.
