The trim is darker than the paint? I don't want to mess with painting the trim and doors! Pick another color or no big deal?

Finish painting the walls and if it still bothers you then re-paint the trim. Hard to tell in your photo the true colors.

I have OCD tendencies, so this would drive me a bit batty. I would choose another, bolder color for the walls - that way you don't have to bother with the trim and doors.

I don't think I can live with it the more I stare at it. I envisioned bright, white walls because the crib and twin bed are dark espresso wood...but my vision isn't working!
A mixed gender shared room is so tough!

ditto to what @deerylou said.
i think pretty much any bright color works for both genders in a shared room

I would paint it. I ended up painting the wood trim in LO's nursery but left the doors alone. Painting trim isnt too bad...

I would change the wall color. Here is a sloppy photoshop of a blue-grey and I think any color rich paint would work much better with the current trim color.

I would go crazy. I actually did something like this at my last house and ended up painting all the trim and doors... In the entire place. Don't be like me.

@rawrasaur: that is exactly the colors of our spare room before we painted it for LO! I loved it!

@Freckles: i can only do so much at 8 months prego, ha ha ha!! and am I crazy for wanting the trim to match the rest of the house?
@rawrasaur: i like that! i was wondering if a blue would be too dark or not. i keep looking on PN and pinterest for inspiration but all the cribs are white. i am going crazy.
@sorrycharlie: do you remember what color you used?

@matador84: I would leave the trim alone! Find a different color for the wall. I would hate that one room had different trim color than the rest.
papaya / 10560 posts
@LuLu Mom: me too. there is crown molding throughout the entire house and it's all the same. i'm digging the blue color...about to go to the paint store and look around!

@matador84: What about a neutral gray color (like BM Stonington Gray)? You wouldn't need to paint the trim, your furniture would pop against it, and it would feel light and airy, especially with your white ceiling.
ETA: And it would work well for both boy/girl accent colors . . .

@MsLipGloss: I am a huge fan of gray, our living room and master are Revere Pewter--since I liked it so much and it looks fab with the trim. Too much gray in a home if it's in 3 of the rooms??
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@matador84: I don't think so, especially because the rooms are so different, and the color will pick up and *reflect* the other accent colors (and décor) in the room. I think the only thing that you can have too much of is really saturated color in multiple rooms without a *break* for your eyes. (if that makes sense)

@MsLipGloss: totally makes sense.
I'm thinking Benjamin Moore...
Old Glory
Patriot Blue
Lucerne
Hearthstone
Stonington Gray

That would absolutely drive me nuts. I'd paint the trim white.

I would leave the trim alone and paint the walls and doors white. That way your trim will still match the rest of the house and it won't be such a stark contrast.

@matador84: it was a return random can when we moved in, my FIl was renovating it (they own) and picked some random cans. I wish I knew! if you want, I can try to ask him later if he has any leftover..but I don't think he does

@sorrycharlie: It's cool! I was just wondering the paint or brand.
I am pretty sure we're going to go with a gray or blue color! I'm ready to get his room done so I can rest before DD gets here!

We had this problem at our house plus our trim was really hard to paint over. I'd avoid painting the trim if you can! I painted almost every room in our house a different color gray and everyone loves it. Some are cooler shades, some warmer. I say go for more gray!
papaya / 10560 posts
@catlady: Good to know! The trim is original to the house and even in the closets...it would just be killer to paint it all around the two windows in the room, door and baseboards. I can handle the walls, but not the trim! Everyone loves the Revere Pewter in our house!
honeydew / 7444 posts
@matador84: You're not but i wouldn't worry about it too much! Right now we have mismatched trim in our house (still on my to-do list). I actually think you should think about the paint trim after you paint the walls. Horizon Gray would be another warm grey that could work with the trim. I'd probably avoid a cool grey with blue/purple undertones.

Yes, it would drive me crazy. I like bright white trim. If you don't want to paint the trim, use a different wall color!

It would drive me nuts. But I'm very solidly in the "white trim" camp.
I spent the summer painting every inch of trim in our 2100 sq ft house white - FIVE GALLONS of paints. But I'm now at peace.

Here's how it turned out!!! We LOVE it! Several things to do pre-baby but the color is perfect.
It's Benjamin Moore buckland blue.

@avivoca: thanks! curtains to do on windows, sheets on twin bed and art up and i should be good!
