You were told at the interview they would "definitely" call you to tell you whether or not you got the job by the end of the week but they didn't?
DH had an interview on Tuesday and said they would call by the end of the week to tell him if he got the job but...*crickets*

I was told once definitely by Monday. I was so upset when I didn't hear. They called me Wednesday--they'd been struggling to get in touch with a reference. Thinking of you!

@simplyfelicity: ugh this is so stressful! As a supervisor I have been in situations where I said this and then six other emergencies happened which prevented me from doing whatever I needed to move forward (check references/paperwork/etc.). So don't give up hope but a nice follow up email/call next week couldn't hurt.

@simplyfelicity: I feel like I remember your husband is a teacher? or maybe I'm making that up? Unfortunately, in my experience, when I interviewed for a lot of teacher jobs right out of college, I was told they would let me know and probably 75% of the time, I never heard back. I really hope your situation is different and there's just something holding the process up!

Sometimes decisions are delayed. 
A friend of mine once followed up on an interview all to find out the hiring manager went on vacation before making a decision. Not too long ago a job I was up for had a delayed final decision because the first pick declined.
Your husband can always follow up with a concise email inquiry. Is the position still available?/ Im the perfect fit.

Give it a few extra days but if he really wants it have him call Monday to see if he can answer any more questions or provide any more info

I wouldn't automatically assume that. I'd think that maybe they were struggling with a final decision, waiting on a business head to weigh in, got sidetracked with normal business, etc.
I would give it a couple of days (maybe till Weds) and then politely reach out and ask if a decision has been made.

I would send a follow up email on Monday reiterating my interest in the position and asking when I should expect to hear back on next steps.

In the business world, I would have hope but in the education world where it's not like they're waiting on funding, etc. I probably wouldn't be too optimistic.

I was in a similar position when I interviewed for my last teaching job. There was a delay in hearing from them, but I ended up getting the job. Best of luck to your husband

My experience is that no one ever gets back to you when they say they will… I would call on Tuesday to check in!

Just to add, I once got a job because they were trying to decide between me and someone else and I am the one who called to check in.

Not necessarily. If I did t hear anything by mid day Monday, I would call.

@simplyfelicity: you still never know. They may have needed principal sign off or something and maybe he/she had an emergency come up end of the week or whatever.

I'm sorry about the waiting game! It's certainly possible they're just not giving him the job, unfortunately, but it could also be just a delay - maybe the person doing the hiring got sick, or the decision is delayed on their end because another candidate rescheduled their interview... In any case, good luck! It's so tough out there these days, but what can you do but keep trying.

In education all rules are off! I recently got a new jobeithin my district and it took nearly two months to get an interview and then they called nearly a week after they said they would to offer the position.

Definitely don't assume he hasn't gotten it! I'm in HR, and there are so many factors that can delay a phone call - decision makers getting sick, references not being reached, questions about salary getting delayed and pushed around before final decisions are made, etc. Have him send a checking in email/phone call in mid next week if you haven't heard yet.

@simplyfelicity: I wouldn't assume anything. We just had this situation where my DH was told he'd hear within a week, which would have been this past Thursday, but he didn't hear until today. There was a hold up getting in touch with one of his references, apparently.

@simplyfelicity: Haha I've definitely done the "Send this email saying this" with my husband too. Job searching is so tough and hard on the morale. Keeping my fingers crossed!
