DH and I are thinking of building a house. It's a new development but the houses are designed to look classic/older; porches in the front and garages in the back, courtyards, etc. Basically, it is supposed to promote a community feeling. It would be a good compromise for us in a lot of ways.

The house would be a very easy walk to a large park and a couple of smaller ones, a small playground, a school, Target, a grocery, and some smaller shops/restaurants that are in the process of being built. The community will eventually have a pool, too.

All that said -- we really won't have a yard. DH loves that because he hates yard work. It makes me a little sad because I grew up with a yard to run around, and yards are the norm in this area (I know it wouldn't be a big deal in an East Coast city, for instance). I'm also concerned about that for resale sometime down the road.

Would you buy a house without a yard, given the other amenities? Or would that be a total deal breaker?
