I had to change doctors 2 years ago because of my health insurance, but that will change in 2 months. We are TTC. My current doctor is an FP and far away. My plan was to go back to my former OB/GYN that I really liked. I just found out that he is about 70, and I am concerned he will retire soon, even though he told my friend who also sees him that he isn't. We plan on having 2 kids (God willing), and it would be nice to have one doctor do both. What would you do?

I would mostly worry about out dated advice. But, if he's current with today's recommendations I'd go with him. At any office, there's a chance that a dr would leave the practice for various reasons.

Personally I would look for someone else; seems like he can retire anytime!

Take a look at his statistics as far as episotomy and so on. If all of those fall in line with others, than I wouldn't worry about it. You never know what could happen to any OB you have, for instance, one that I had, ended up going out on maternity leave herself. I wouldn't worry about the future just the present.

@AmeliaBedilia: my OB is probably 72-74? He is the doctor that delivered me. I feel a lot more comfortable with him than I think I would with a younger doctor and fully trust his recommendations and opinions. I don't really see him retiring any time soon either. If you liked him before, I say go with it!

I would if it were the dr I liked best!
But my opinion is that I'll go with my diet choice if possible even if they'll retire. (I would feel a bit differently about a pediatrician.)

My OB is on the older side...probably 60. But he always surprised me with being up to date on the newest research. I love my OB!
