My middle name was my uncle's middle name... it wasn't a name I would ever consider using. We gave the kids middle names that they could go by... I wonder if they'll ever decide to use them!
Would you consider going by your middle name?

No never. Unless I start doing stand-up or something. It's Hecker. So, yeah... not really
pomelo / 5509 posts
Nope, because my middle name is a last name (grandmother's maiden name) and it's masculine. It's not something anyone would ever use as a first name.
pineapple / 12526 posts
Nope. My first name is common for a girl of my generation but my middle (Nichole) is common for girls of many generations.
pineapple / 12802 posts
Nope. I don't MIND it now, but I've disliked it most of my life (to the point where only 3 of my friends and my husband actually know what it is and I won't even repeat it here). It's a very old name (my grandmothers) and it was shortened to flow with my first name better.

Not anymore, since I legally dropped my middle name and made my maiden name my new middle name (and my maiden name isn't really one that could be used as first name--well, maaaybe in Ireland, but not for a girl). I liked my old middle name, though (Caitlin) and would have considered using it if I didn't like my first name so much.

For a short period of time in elementary school I had people call me by a shortened version of my middle name because I HATED my first name because I was named after someone who had their own psychic network and posed for Playboy.
I grew to like my name though and now wouldn't go by my middle name.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
Nope. My original middle name I reaaaally disliked, so I replaced it with my maiden name when I got married. Maiden name is a a very masculine name, so no going by that one either! I stuck LO with it too, so if she doesn't like her first name, tough cookies

My parents actually almost gave me my middle name for my first name, but they decided it was too common. My first name is pretty unique and I wouldn't trade it! My mom goes by her middle name, though, and she has basically since birth. I always wondered what the point of that was, like why didn't my grandparents just...name her that?

Not now. But I think in some ways my middle name is better than my first. It's common in many different cultures so I know women of all ages with it. Where as my first name became widespread in the 70s and 80s. I feel like it's a kid's name. My middle name is a female version of my dad's middle name, so I like the familial feel to it.

some of my friends call me by my middle name. i like it better than my first name, it's not as popular (it's a nickname of a very popular name for girls my age but most don't use that particular nickname.)

Maybe if I suddenly because a supermodel or pop star I'd go by my second middle name. Other than that it's too late to switch it up now.
coconut / 8483 posts
I like my middle! But I can't see myself making a switch at this stage in life, lol. It's also my aunts first name so that might make it harder to go by! No one in my family goes by their middle.
clementine / 994 posts
Technically no, as I made my maiden name my middle name when I got married. I have one of those double first names, and my family always called the second half of my first name my "middle" name. Most people call me by that name (Joy) because my real first name is long.
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
No. Everyone would pronounce it different. My middle name is Lauren, pronounced La-Wren.
pomelo / 5820 posts
Nope, it's just a filler middle name, nothing special. I much prefer my first name.
pomegranate / 3008 posts
As much as I like my middle name, it is too masculine for me to use it as a first name.
watermelon / 14206 posts
My middle name is my mom's first name, so no.
My dad goes by his middle name, though.
persimmon / 1331 posts
My middle name is my mom's first name, so I don't think so. It would be too weird to hear people call me my mom's name!

I wouldn't, but maybe my kids might! DS' new middle name is cool, and DD's is pretty too
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
No, I think it's confusing generally. Plus, my middle name is kind of boring-- Mary. I like it because it's got familie ties-- my mom is Mary Something, and my grandma is Mary, but I wouldn't choose to go by it. I like my first name better.
I would like to give LO my maiden name as a middle name, but DH thinks you should have two 'real' names, so I guess LO will have the option of using theirs.
bananas / 9628 posts
no, but only because i love my first name
my parents weren't sure if i'd like it or not, so my middle name is elizabeth because they figured there were a lot of names i could make out of that if i didn't want to use my first name.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
No. I don't care for my middle name.
J could use either of his middle names if he wanted to. but I love his first name so much I hope he doesn't want to
papaya / 10560 posts
I dropped my birth middle name and moved my maiden name to my middle name when I got married. Some people still call me by my maiden name, so I guess in a way I go by my middle name!
coconut / 8079 posts
DH goes by his middle name. His parents gave him his dad's name as a first name & always intended to call him by his middle name. I will never do that to a child of mine b/c I find it truly confusing--hopefully they will just like the name I give them!
And as a teacher it drives me crazy at the beginning of school to figure out all my students' names when half of them don't go by the name on the roster.
I have always liked my first & middle names but I can't imagine going by anything but my first name.
clementine / 818 posts
My maiden name is now my middle name, but it is definitely not usable as a first name, I would use my middle name from before marriage though, I think it is pretty, I just had no real reason to use it since I have no issues with my first name.
coconut / 8498 posts
I grew up going by my middle name. When I got married I dropped my first name altogether. It was such a PITA.
grapefruit / 4800 posts
No, it's kinda a filler name too. I have had people combine my first and middle name and that's fine.
pomelo / 5321 posts
Maybe. The name itself is pretty normal but the spelling is kind of weird. My mom is into different names.
pear / 1812 posts
No. Lee is just so... blah. And I think it is more of a male first name than a female.
grapefruit / 4442 posts
No. I like my first name and I feel my middle name is a little embarrassing. Sometimes dh calls LO by her middle name but that could be because her first name can't really be shortened and her middle name was his first pick
pomelo / 5469 posts
Yes. After I got married I thought about going by my middle name, as it sounds better with my new surname. I didn't though, but maybe one day I might.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
I go by my middle name in all non-professional applications. For work I go by First, Middle Initial, Last and for everything else I go by my middle name. Most new friends are shocked when they find out it isn't my real name.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
I don't dislike my middle name, but I probably wouldn't go by it, just because there's no reason to.
