My middle name is a (masculine) family surname, so it doesn't really work for a first name. For a long time, though, I thought I would go by my first name and middle name only if I ever needed a stage name or pen name.
I still might keep it as a backup name, just in case.

I kind of do... it's my Korean name so sometimes relatives will refer to me by my middle name! Same with Wagon Sr. and our kids. Kind of a win/win

I never had a middle name until I got married; then I moved my maiden name to my middle name. So no?
DS has a pretty cool middle name. Hubby is kind of hoping he'll go by it or use it!

No, it's not that i dislike it but its not a name I would want to go by. it's a good middle name!

There was a point in my life where I wished my first name was my middle. For some reason I hated my first name growing up, but now I couldn't imagine my middle as my given name...it sounds like a middle name.

Yes
I didn't change my middle name to my maiden name when I got married.

Nope, my middle name is my mom's first name. I didn't love my first name growing up (Kelly) but tried to change it (Kat... yes, I tried. It did not stick) and then went by KJ a lot. But I never even thought to go by my middle name.

Nope. It's a middle name that wouldn't be a great first name. And no way for my old middle name, I really disliked it. We have our LO first and middle names and hopefully he loves since he even has several nicknames to work with.

I don't, and wouldn't... my aunt did, though, and my old CW does!

Do you mean going by your middle name instead of your first name?
Like if your name is A B C. You would do by B? Or do you mean going by your first and middle name together like A-B? Some of my co-workers go by A-B. ^_^
I have a bit of a childish first name... It's great for a cute little girl but as a professional it's not super great.
I considered changing my first name to my middle name legally (IE just switching them) but when I did some research into it, it was very tough.
I tried just saying that I'm my middle name but when people found out my real first name they would just refer me to that. No win! ^_^
When I got married I thought I could change my first name along with my last name but that's very frowned upon because it looks shady to completely change your whole name and it was a lot more paper work and reasonings to do so. So thus I'm stuck with my first name always and forever.
By all means it's not super terrible... it's cute... but cute is not what you really want as a "grown up"

DH calls me by my middle name sometimes, but I wouldn't go by it for everyone. I like it as my special nn from him though

@mrbee: sure! I like my middle name almost as much as my first. They are almost equally common, middle is probably more of a "classic" girls name than my first. They both start with an E.

i go by a nickname of my middle name (i've always gone by that name, my parents started calling me it as soon as i was born) and it's kind of a big hassle! i mean, i love my nickname, but REALLY wish it was my first name. when i got married, i kept all three of my original names and so now have four - so confusing! haha.

@zippylef: my mn is Nichole as well. I don't see too many people who spell it with an "H".

@NavyRN2012: My parents took the traditional H out of my first name and put it in my middle.

My first name is super-common, and when I left for college I considered going by my middle, which is also my mom's maiden name. I chickened out, though!
My mom goes by a nickname for her given middle name (she dropped her given first name when she got married). My dad goes by his middle name, and my grandmother and all 7 of her siblings go/went by either middle names or initials! One of my uncles on that side also goes by a nickname for his middle name. My other grandmother goes by her middle name, and her daughter/my aunt didn't have a middle name until she got married, and moved her maiden name into the middle spot. All that family history means I fall firmly into the "name the baby what you intend to call it" camp.

I don't have a middle name. We gave DD my great grandmother's name as her middle name. It's a beautiful name IMHO, but it's kind of dated, so I doubt she would ever want to use it as the name that she goes by.

I never thought about it, but my middle name is lovely and I would use it. Although I would prefer the full name (Catherine) to its nicknames (Cate or Catie). Of course at tbis point it would be pretty pointless to switch since everyone knows me by my first name, myseld iincluded!
