No way. I'd always take time to visit with the sitting president if I had the chance. That's awesome no matter what!

Not a chance. It would be an honor to meet a sitting president, especially if I had been invited! It's a source of pride for me that I've met the last 4 Presidents (even the ones I really don't like), but none of them were sitting Presidents when I met them-I met them all either before they were President or after.

Depends on the kind of invite. If it was for a cause that's important to me, I'd go whether or not I agreed with the president on most of his policies. If it was just a gala or ball though? I would probably pass. (Haha so funny to think of because it would NEVER happen. I'm thinking of it like a boss I did/did not respect, and I'd probably find a reason not to go to something if I didn't respect the boss's leadership and the event was not related to any causes I cared about.)

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: She tried to go to Lady Bird's bridal shower!! (they were friends at the time). They were all pretty high society, and gram was never allowed at the same social events as Lyndon.

She pushed him into a lake when he was 9 and couldn't swim - Gram's favorite saying is always, "The worst thing my father ever did was save that SOB's life!!" XD She's a hoot!

I would go, regardless of how I felt about the POTUS. To me, it is more of an institution than just a person.

eta: I would actually accept an invitation from any head of state. I think they're fascinating people, wanting to take the stewardship of a nation.

I also think it's one of those things that you have to have a respect for, if you are citizen. You don't have to agree, but you should respect. It's like the military, I might not agree with having forces in a particular place, but you better believe I support our military forces.

No I'd still go.

I would go just so I could tell the president what I think of his politics/policies. He works for me and it is my job to tell him when I think he is doing a terrible job.

That's interesting. Being Canadian, I'm indifferent to meeting the American president, but I don't think I'd turn down meeting our Prime Minister (who I don't like). It would be interesting to see if I could manage to ask "what the hell?" about some of the policies.

In order for me to decline, the President would have to be the equivalent... I don't know, Hitler or Idi Amin or something. If I just disagree with his/her tax policy? Heck yeah, I'll go.

I'd decline if I didn't like the sitting president's politics. I guess I just don't think it would be an honor to meet someone whose views are the complete opposite if my own and is taking the country down the wrong path in my opinion. Luckily for me, I will likely never be put in the position to ever decline a trip to the White House.

I would definitely go!

I actually went to a White House gala when I was in college, but was not at all a fan of the party/president at the time. It was still a really amazing opportunity to see both the POTUS and Vice Pres, along with other party members in person at the same event.

@meganmp: Hmmm I don't think I'd ever really want to meet a president but I'd be more automatic to decline one I didn't agree with to the extent I do currently. (Really I dislike all politicians regardless of "side") lol
