Nope. Nope nope. My parents are divorced and my dad's soon to be new wife is pretty nice, but there's just no way I could live with either of my parents again. My dad's fiancee's son is currently living with them to save on rent, and I think he's 22 or something, and he's not thrilled with it lol. I love having my own space and I love being independent.

If we had to for whatever reason, I would move in with my parents vs. the IL's. My parents have a guest house so we wouldn't be all up in their space. If they didn't, I would use that as my absolute last option.

Maybe moving into a cheaper/less nice apartment for 6 months to a year to save up?

Hell to the NO! I cannot imagine a world in which I live with my parents again. In a desperate situation, I could see moving in with DH's, but that would be if neither of us were working and there were no other options.

Only if we desperately needed to, I really like my own privacy.

I wouldn't want to move in with them, but they could totally move in with me! DH and I talk about buying a house with an I law apartment so that they can come stay with us when they retire.

As a last resort for a short amount of time, sure. But if I didn't have to, not a chance in hell. I love my parents, but I couldn't handle living with them again now that I'm an adult and have my own routines and way of living. I'd feel like I had to tell them everything...where I'm going, when I'd be back. No thank you!

I can't see a situation where DH and I would move in with them - they don't live near us. Maybe if we were both unemployed and looking to make a major change we would do it short term. If something happened to DH I think I probably would move in with them short-term. I'd want to live in my hometown if I was on my own and it would be nice to have the help while we readjusted.

Yes - my mom is so hands off and busy we'd never see her so it wouldn't be all that different from us living separately from her.

Yep - would do it in a heartbeat if the need arose.

@regberadaisy: "Never say never" very true... my SIL was a SAHM and she decided one day that she was sick of her DH so they got seperated and since she's never worked a day in her life and her DH pays the bills she had to move out. No money=moving back in with her parents!

I can say, however, that I would NEVER move in with DH's parents.

A year ago, I would have said hell no, but circumstances change... I would definitely do it for a short (and specified) period of time in order to meet personal goals (saving money, etc.)

Under a couple circumstances: if my mom needed someone with her around the clock and us moving into her home made more sense than her moving in with us OR we were facing significant financial burden- saving for a house wouldn't cut it.

I'm a situation where we had to, or it would financially help us out significantly in the long run, I could *maybe* live with my in laws for 6 months.
My parents, though? Absolutely NOT! I stayed with them Mon-Thurs for 2 months because their house was 30 minutes away from a clinical site I was at for school (I live over 2 hours away) and it was pure hell. I could literally not even imagine a worst case scenario where we could stay with my family.

I might consider it in two situations: 1) if it would keep them out of a nursing facility/hospice, or 2) as a temporary solution following some sort of disaster for us. I wouldn't do it to save for a down payment, or even a full cash payment, on a house--in that situation, I'd look to downsize our apartment and pay less rent.

@honeybear: Ditto to this. But it would have to be either my mother or my ILs...I would never, ever move back in with my father and stepmother. I'd rather gouge my own eyes out.

Only if we were absolutely desperate.
