Would you get rid of your TV?

Nope! I enjoy having the TV on as background as I go about my day, and I am enjoying watching TV on netflix lately. We are reducing our cable to a basic hi-def package though, we don't have time for the movie channels etc lately, and there is lots to watch on netflix, so the extra channels are a huge waste of $$ every month.

No way! I would maybe give up cable because I don't really watch normal tv that much, but I would never give up netflix/apple tv/blu rays/gaming systems!

Never, I have no shame in saying that I like tv. We have cut down on using it a lot- we don't watch weekly shows anymore. But I do like watching the news and putting PBS on in the morning during breakfast so I can nap or get ready in the morning.

I haven't had a TV since college, so it has been a decade! It's just not something I have ever been interested in.

Eta: we have a video projector and watch movies that way. But we don't watch anything else.

Yes!! I hate TV - I didn't have one for 5 years while I lived alone but when DH moved in the first thing he did was set the TV up. Its on every single night now and it drives me crazy! I loathe it, especially when there's sport on or worse when it starts sucking me in. Mind numbing AND it takes up space in my lounge - space that could be used for pretty things but no, the huge 42" monstrosity must have pride of place. Ugh.

NO WAY!! I love TV and I'm not ashamed to say it! lol! We almost always have something on in the background just for noise, though lately it's been exclusively Netflix with the exception of Football on Sunday.

Nope, we couldn't. DH watches a lot of movies and he likes the bigger screen. Not a fan of using the computer screen.

We got rid of our TV over 2 years ago, and I love not having it. If we want to watch something specific we stream it on the computer, and we watch netflix or amazon prime too. I used to watch a bunch of trashy tv and have it on in the background during the day, but I feel much more productive now without it.

No way, I love it too much! We've contemplated getting rid of cable, but we are TV people we just enjoy programs too much! We are actaully looking into a smart TV to put in the basement since that's where LOs playroom will be and we will be utalizing the space more.

We definitely couldn't get rid of the TV! We have a few shows we enjoy too much, and we both are avid sports fans as well!

I have never owned a TV, so I guess my answer is "yes", although I grew up with one and I had some roommates who had them in shared spaces. We have a big monitor for videos/DVDs, but we don't watch many movies. There is one show I occasionally watch online, but the only series I've made it through in recent memory was "LOST" and I guess that was kind of a long time ago!

No way! Besides the fact that we watch a lot of sports, we just like tv in general.

@Mrs. Bee: Already did. I gave it to the janitor at my last job in Western NY. He was so ridiculously happy. He went around telling the whole floor of the hospital that I got him a "new" TV. It was an absolute behemoth, and was just taking up space gathering dust. We do not miss it one bit, we do use our computers when we need a fix but it's not often, and I rarely get sucked into any series anymore. (One caveat is that I grew up with no TV in the house until I was 11 or 12 when my mum finally caved, and DH is mostly away from home on clinical rotations and/or studying.)

Never! You can pry my TV out of my cold, dead hands!

haha, seriously though, there are *so many* great, educational and amazing programs out there now, watching TV doesn't have to mean watching junk (although I do watch a lot of junk, too).

We essentially already did, technically we have one in our house but it is an old tube one that hasn't been used in years. We watch t.v. on our computers but not having a real t.v. has really cut down on how much we watch. I very rarely miss it and even when I miss it I quickly realize that missing it means I want to sit in front of it for hours on end watching HGTV which just doesn't lead to good things for me!

Why? Is it bothering him? My DH would probably die if he didn't have TV. lol. I don't watch a ton of TV, but I don't think I could give it up!

I did for a year. I read a lot, but I read a WHOLE lot more when I didn't have tv. I didn't miss it one bit. Cable and internet was just expensive where i lived and I didn't care too much about having television so I just never got it hooked up and didn't have any channels.

We ditched cable more than 2 years ago when we moved. We have cable Internet & have used the money we save on cable tv to buy whole series of shows on DVD. So far we've watched every episode of The West Wing (twice!), the original Law & Order, and now we're watching House. It's fun to binge-watch and not have to suffer through agonizing programming breaks.

We use our TV to stream DD's cartoons on Netflix. Haven't had cable in over a year!
I could live without a TV since I watch all of my shows online.

    We don't have one.
I don't want to be tempted to stick Vi in front of it, and honestly I have better things to do. It means I only watch shows I actually care about and enjoy enough to download, not mindless surfing.

Nah, but we canceled our cable like a year and a half ago. We have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, and I have the cables to connect my laptop to the TV. I especially like having it on when E is asleep and DH is still at work.

I easily could. I never watch. I didn't have as a child for a lot of years either. It's only on if DH is home, he loves it - no chance our household would be unplugged.

  36. Mrs. Jacks

@Arden: unplug and free your mind! It is so nice to control my media consumption instead of having unwanted shows, commercials and other stuff be pushed at me while I passively consume it.

Yeah, I have no idea who Honey boo boo is, but I really don't care!
