My husband has a tat and I hate it! He actually kind of regrets it too sometimes, whenever my LO touches it and tries to scratch it off. He really doesn't want our children (when they're older) to get tattoos, even though he got one himself (which he admits was probably a mistake). I really don't want my kids to get one either.
How about you? Would you mind if your children got tattoos?

I have one and I'm worried my kids will want one and call me a hypocrite if I tell them no. So I decided that they can get one when they're 25 years old, which is when I got mine.

It really depends on the tattoo and the motive behind it, also we will not allow any tattoos before 16 and until they are out of the house we will have to be okay with the tattoo (nothing stupid or profane in any way). My dad gave me my one and only tattoo when I was 17 and I don't regret it at all.

I have 3, and I wouldn't mind if my child got one after they turned 18, as long as it is in an area they can hide easily for professional reasons (all of mine are easily hid). I also wouldn't mind if my teen who was 16 or older wanted a body or facial piercing (but just one).

I love tattoos on other people, but for some reason it's not for me and I don't want my LO to have one. Her skin is so beautiful, she doesn't need anything on it to help beautify it.

I would be so disappointed if my child got tattoos in visible places or one that they regret. I have one but it's meaningful and HIDDEN!

As long as they get them as a conscious act and after 25, I wouldn't mine. I have two and got my first one at 28.

I don't care if they get one, but I hope they want until at least their mid 20's to get one. Too many things are soooo meaningful or important when you're a teen...and less so when you get a little older. I would hate for them to have something permanent on their body they regretted.

I wouldn't encourage it, but I wouldn't totally freak out unless they got it in a really awful place like their face or neck or hands where it can't be hidden.

I have a tattoo on my foot and DH has a half sleeve on one arm and a tattoo on another. So, I'm sure the battle will come where our LO will want a tattoo, since DH has some. Of course DH's are things that are meaningful to him (a drawing his grandma did etc) so its nothing offensive...I think we would make our kid think about it for a while before getting it and they need to be old enough to get one on their own.

I hope they don't, but if they do I hope it's when they are older, have really thought about it, it's not huge, and they can hide it of needed for a good job.

DH and I both have tattoos. I don't mind if they get tattoos as long as it's not their boyfriend's name. Oh, and that they really think carefully about what they get since it's pretty much permanent. I would love it if they took me with them. Then I can make sure the tattoo parlor is clean! Hehe.

I have two stipulations - be out of my house and have thought about it for over 1 year. (By "it," I mean a specific design they are sure about and hopefully has SOME meaning to it.)
Not that I'll really have any control once they're over 18 anyways. But no way will they be allowed to get one in high school.

I have 2, one I got at 18 and one at 20, and I don't think I would mind. It's their body, not mine.
BUT, I will not pay for one and they will be 18 before I allow it. None of this signed consent forms when they're 16 crap.

DH and I don't have any. I might have gotten one when I was younger, but my father always said that if we got a tattoo, he wasn't giving us any money toward a wedding. Worked for me and my sister for sure, so maybe we'll try that tactic with our daughter. If she does want one, I hope similarly to other posters, that she's a little older and has really thought about what she wants.

I love my tattoos and my husband loves his. Our rule will probably be that the tattoo has to have meaning, and they have to want it for x amount of months. The legal age here is 16 with parents consent or 18 without. I got mine at 16 and 17 (with and without, I was rebel) and hubs got his at 18 and 21 I think.

Once they are adults (21yrs old) it will be entirely their choice although I would advise against it.

Im really surprised about all the "I'd advise against it", and negativity around it.
I have 4 and my husband has 5 and we love them. I love that it's my body and I can do with it what I like.
We will NOT tell them they shouldn't or not to once they are 18yrs old and legal adults. We will do our best to not stifle their creativity no matter what that means.
I would hope that after 18yrs we would have raised them to make the right decisions but conforming to society isn't something we will insist they do as long as they are respectful and productive members of society.
Tattoo or no tattoo being a good person is more important to us.

I wouldn't mind because it is their body. I would advise them to get them in a place they can cover them up though.

I guess I feel like after 18 I really have no say in it, I got my first one at 18 and hid it from my parents for about a month before they saw it. I just hope they are smart about their decisions and can cover them up and have a meaning behind it if they choose to do so.
