At our last pediatrician visit, we met a little girl named California. Made me wonder, would you name your lo after a state?

I met the sweetest little boy every named Dallas I loved that. I also love the name London. However I don't think Rhode Island is something I would ever entertain.

Depends on the state. Montana? Sure! Dakota? Ok! Mississippi? Probably not....

Nope! Considered a city, but decided against it.

I think Georgia is a cute name, but I wouldn't use it since I grew up there.

I've met a California, Montana, and Arizona. Is it something I would do? probably not.

The only one I like is Georgia because a little girl nicknamed "Georgie" would be so cute!

Not my style, but some of them work. Country names or international cities I might like better. I have to say, Morocco (before Beyonce used it) is super cute.

I wouldn't. If I had strong ties to the state, it would seem weird (naming a baby Georgia when you are from Georgia) but it would seem even weirder if you weren't from there. Other than that, it's not for me but it doesn't bother me. Some are better than others (Tennessee, Virginia, Dakota vs Texas, Vermont...)

@anonysquire: bahaha!!!
Only if it had some type of significance to us. We live next to the Dakota's and hate them, even though I think Dakota is a cute name I could never use it because I know the states too well
@mediagirl: I think Cali would be a cute nn for California!
I would probably go moreso for a city.
I kinda liked the boys name Blaine, but there is a city named Blaine near us that is a little ghetto so it wouldn't really work here. But there are some other cities that are cute
Actually I babysat a girl whose name was Addison after the city in Illinois. Little did they know it would skyrocket in popularity.

@Arden: I knew two sisters named Africa and Asia - I thought it was kinda cute even though I wouldn't use it.

@MediaNaranja: i had a great-aunt named Mississippi Mae! Lol
Cs name is technically a city, but its also a widely accepted name.

There is a street in my neighborhood with my same name. I should take ownership of it or something. I am big on cities as names. I have neighbors named McCall after McCall Idaho, and Logan after Logan Utah.

I went to college with a girl named Exa...interesting take on "Texas"

I think I would - but I don't live in the States so names like Arizona, Montana, Georgia, etc don't have the same associations here - they are just cute names!

I wouldn't do it. I'm in Canada, so I don't think it is all that common here. I knew a boy named Montana though.

My fifth grade math teacher was named Mrs. Sippy. Seriously. Don't think I'd go there with baby names though. Some are better than others...I had three people named Virginia at my wedding - no New Jerseys.

Yes. I love Georgia and really love Virginia...not sure if there are any other states past those two.

My mom's name is Virginia, which is fine. Her grandmother's name was Missouri, which is kind of weird. Other than Virginia and Georgia, and maybe Montana or Indiana, I can't really get into states as names. I think I would prefer city names to state names, generally. I love the name Austin, and up until about 2 years ago, I was certain I would be naming my first daughter Sydney, after Sydney, Australia. But there are tons of great cities that can be used as names - Paris, Carson, Jackson, Madison....

I would say no cause no of them are our style. Maybe Georgia but we live in GA so that would just be weird.
