My SIL's boyfriend has a lake house about 6 hours away. They asked us to go away with them for his birthday May 31-June 4. I will be 36 weeks at that point.
I feel a little apprehensive being that far away that close to my due date. I know that it is unlikely that I will go into labor that early but it's not unheard of.
Would you go? I could REALLY use a vacation!

I wouldn't... I'd be too paranoid!! Maybe ask your doctor what they think?

Ask your doc. Mine didn't want me to be more than 2 hours away from her after 34 weeks. But I also had preterm contracts starting at 26 weeks.

Depending on how smoothly my pregnancy has gone up to that point, I would go if there was a hospital within a short driving distance, just in case.

nope. My doctor told me no travel more than 2 hours away by car when I was like 34 weeks.

Depends. Would you drive or fly? Flying sucked last weekend at 32w, I wouldn't want to do it at 36 for anything. I don't know how much I'd love being in a car for 6 hours, but if you are just going to a lake house to relax the entire weekend, I wouldn't think it would be that bad. If you have to do a lot of walking or sightseeing, heck no. Having to walk around Vegas at 32w suuucked, but I can imagine a relaxing weekend by a lake would be nice! Definitely check with your doctor and bring a list of the nearby hospitals just in case.

Nope. There is no way I could sit in a car that long at 36 weeks. Also, I became the stay puff marshmallow man when I flew at 22 weeks, I can't imagine flying at 36 weeks if that is your plan!!

It sounds like fun, but at 36 weeks I was too uncomfortable to last in a car for more than about a half hour. I definitely could have used a vacation at that point, but wouldn't have survived the 6 hour trip!

my doctor advised me not to travel that far starting at 36 weeks because of access to a hospital (obviously if my pregnancy had not been low-risk there would have been that reason as well). if you really need this vacation, you could see if there's a hospital near where you'll be staying, and if your insurance will cover providers there. i had to go to the ER once and ended up getting surgery--we didn't have time to check whether the surgeon was covered by my insurance and man did we get slapped with some hefty bills.

No. I had pre-term labor at 22 weeks, and tons of BHs. I was also induced (unplanned) at 38.5 weeks. 6 hours is just too far IMO.

I definitely would have. But of course, no one in my family has ever delivered before 41 weeks.

Yep! I went about 10 hours away when I was 8 months with G! It was his dad's family land for their reunion out in the middle of nowhere on the lake! I SOOOO needed it & SOOOO glad I went!

I would probably go provided I wasn't showing any signs of pre-term labor. The car ride would be a little rough but it would be nice to relax for a few days! I'd take a copy of my medical records and research the nearest hospital just in case though!

I would not, but I am also super paranoid about going into labor early (though I really have no reason to be). The car ride alone would be very uncomfortable for me!

I wouldn't, but I'm really afraid of going early and being far away from my hospital. Our anniversary is in mid June, and I'm a little too nervous to go 2 hours away on a mini vacation.

I probably wouldn't have, just because I wouldn't have wanted to travel. 6 hours in the car (I'm guessing you'd drive?) would not have been worth it for me, especially if it was just for a few days. Plus, by then I really liked having my own space- I need a pretty specific setup of pillows and support to be able to sleep comfortably at night, I had Tums bottles in every room of the house, I had my bathtub, I had my own bathroom that I visited approximately every 15 seconds, etc. I would not have been comfortable in someone else's space at that point.

I wouldnt but thats because when I was pregnant with DS we went 2 hours away at 35 1/2 weeks and then 3 days after we got home I went into labor and was fully dialated in 4 1/2 hours. This time around I definitely won't be traveling at 35-36 weeks. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Personally, I don't think i would-- I want to be near the hospital I'm familiar with, even though I am totally sure another hospital would deliver the baby just fine if it was early. And I think the car ride might be uncomfortable, but doable. So I think you could (not that I have actually BEEN 36 weeks pregnant) but it depends on your own comfort level. And, of course, if there are good hospitals near the lake. A weekend at a lake house does sound amazing.
I'll be driving with DH to my baby shower at almost 35 weeks, 4 hours away. I'm really not looking forward to the drive, but we couldn't do it any sooner. There will be tons of hospitals all along the way though!

I would but I'm not attached to the hospital I'm giving birth at. My family lives about 6 hours away and I know I'll be making a visit at 34 weeks and I'm debating another before birth.

I wouldn't do it. I had a hard enough time sitting in the car that long pre-preg, I don't think I could handle a trip like that now.

I am planning on going to my cousin's wedding that is a 4.5 hour drive (probably longer with traffic) at 35 weeks and spending the night. My plans might change as I get closer, but as long as my Dr. says it's okay and we talk about back-up plans then I'm planning on going.

I wouldn't. My doc said no further than an hour starting at 36 weeks. It seemed kind of extreme, but I had preterm contractions at 28 weeks, so they wanted me close by. So Hubs and I missed Christmas with our families.

I wanted to for my sister's wedding, but my doctor said no way. I do think I could've handled it physically though...I feel ok, but she was worried about me going into labor far away from the hospital.

I'd ask your doctor but I probably wouldn't if I didn't have to. I moved from Minnesota to North Carolina at 38 weeks but that wasn't by choice. My doctor wasn't really comfortable with it but I did fine besides swelling from the car ride.
At the same time, it probably would be a nice distraction towards the end of pregnancy.

My doc wouldn't have allowed it, I was on travel restriction of 1 hour from hospital the last 5 weeks!

I don't think I would have been worried about going in to labor, but that's a long time for a very pregnant person to be sitting in a car. I couldn't handle more than an hour or two in the car at that point.

I would have not, but I was extremely uncomfortable at 36 weeks, and wouldn't have made it more than an hour/hour and a half in a car, at most. We drove an hour to the beach at 35 weeks, and the car ride sucked, so I can't imagine 6 hours.

i wouldn't because i had olive at 35 weeks 2 days. the day before i went apple picking and would have been far from my hospital.

If my doctor okay'ed it and there was a hospital nearby then why not?!
