Just that - if you didn't give your first lo a family name, would you consider doing so for your second?

If I liked the names, then absolutely. But I think its pretty common to use family names for the first so the pressure is off if you decide not to use any for the second.

I did. R's name has no family ties (and we picked it before we knew she wouldn't make it), but L's middle name is DH's middle name, which he shares with multiple family members. Though the reason we didn't consider it for R was that we were saving it in case we had a boy later (we used a feminine spelling, but it's a more male name, and is traditionally used for the first boy in DH's family), and by the time we had L we knew we weren't having any more kids so there was no reason to save it.

Not on purpose but if I loved the name and it just happened to be a family member then yes I would

We did. DS's middle name is DH's first name. DD doesn't have any family names. I didn't love the name, to be honest, but we needed something simple as a middle name and I like the initials TJ as a nickname. I never though I would, though, as my parents gave me my mum's name as my middle and I have never forgiven them. And DH's parents had a thing about naming their kids after themselves and I didn't like that.

Yes, but only because I LOVE the name. We named our first LO Brady because my husband really, really loved the name. We agreed if we ever had another (boy) we would name him Harvey after my grandfather.

I did. DS1 shares a middle name with his father but his 1st name isn't a family name at all. DS2's 1st name is my maternal grandfather's name and his middle name is DH's fathers name.

Sure. We didn't give one to DD1. We gave DD2 my middle name and have another family name in mind if we have a third.

We did, and it was because a dear family member passed away between my first and second. Second DD got her name as a middle name.

LO doesn't have a family name and if we do have another I don't think we would use a family name either.

I did it with my 3rd! My father passed away just as I was newly pregnant with my first daughter but I had already had a name for a daughter picked out since like childhood and I still wanted to use it so I did. I reasoned I might have another child, a boy even, and could use my dad's name then. When I got pregnant with my last baby we picked names using my dad's name for a boy and a feminized version if it was a girl. I had a girl and she now has her middle name to honor my dad. I dont feel weird about it

@Smurfette: The fever was strong for a few months there but now I'm kind of over it. Haha. I'm not going to say never but I highly doubt it at this point.
