I have always liked the way Reagan sounds but for family meaning I prefer the spelling Raegan.
I think Reagan is out but would you use Raegan?
Bonus points for any similar name options. I just heard Rowan on HB and think that's cute.

I think if you want to pronounce it "ray-gihn" then Raegan makes sense.
Rowan is adorable too! Are you hoping for a girl?
ETA - I know both names are unisex but I've only know girl Raegans and I tend to associate Rowan with girls now too.

Ahhh, that Reagan was my runner up name. I wish my parents named me that. Either spelling is fine and both will be pronounced like the late President Reagan. If you spell it RAE, though your child will have a lifetime of having to correct people mis-spelling her name. My very popular first name has an alternate spelling and at least once a day I have to spell it for someone because of email.

I have a friend named Reagan. I love it! Expect it to be misspelled a lot though
honeydew / 7916 posts
I agree that the Reagan spelling is so ingrained in people's heads that you and your daughter may forever be correcting them, which may defeat the purpose.
ETA: It doesn't have the -an ending, but there is Remy?

As someone who has a common name, but a weird spelling, it gets really old, even at 34, always having to spell our and for people.
That being said I love the name and Rowan too.
What about Riley??

I like the name Reagan a lot but I tend to like traditional spelling of names.

I have a more common name with the common spelling and I have still had a lifetime of correcting people's spelling and/or pronunciation of my name.

I have a very common name spelled not common at all and it is annoying to have to correct ppl constantly. My diploma's for high school and college were both misspelled lol
I love the name and it was on our list for a long time but I don't think I'd spell it that way unless you were going for Ray-gen and not Ree-gen.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
ETA - we would want the pronunciation to be Ray-gan but wouldn't worry if it was mispronounced (I don't think there is a huge difference)

I love that name, but I'd also probably go with the traditional spelling.
grapefruit / 4049 posts
If you and potential daughter don't mind others spelling it wrong practically all the time (including maybe on important documents too), then I suppose! I know someone who changed up the name Rachel... and it's always getting butchered!
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
I like the name & your spelling! I have to correct and spell out my name all the time, but I don't find it that annoying. I actually like that I have a fairly uncommon name!
FWIW, I like Rowan too.

@T.H.O.U.: I don't see why not? It's cute.
My nieces name is Roenne (pronounced Rowan)

I have a friend with a 3 year old girl named Raegan and spelled like that. I don't think anyone pronounces it wrong. Spells it wrong, yes, but I think in this day and age a lot of people know to ask for the spelling of your name. I get a "and how do you spell that?" a lot and I have a very normal, classic name!
nectarine / 2127 posts
I have to spell my first and last name out at least once a day and even then, people still butcher it beyond belief. I love the name Reagan, but I personally wouldn't change the spelling having grown up with an alternative spelling. It may not seem like a big deal (and in the grand scheme of things it isn't) but it gets pretty annoying!

Totally not an R name but I love Emerson for a girl. Just throwing it out there, since its kind of seems similar to Rowan.

Not something I would choose. #1 because of the political connotations and #2 because of the spelling. I have a relatively straightforward name that has many optional spellings and it is never ever spelled correctly. I just roll with it, but occasionally it has implications for important documents.

Similar: Rhiannon (for a girl). I'm not nuts about it, but Regan (REE-gan) is very similar.

I personally prefer the spelling "Reagan" if you are going to go with that name (which I personally don't like, but hey, it's not my kid)
I like Rowan, though. That's cuter.
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
I wouldn't just because of the political ties, but if it's a name that's important to your family then I can see why you would use it.

In my opinion, Raegan looks like a typo of Reagan.
But I love Reagan!
persimmon / 1081 posts
@honeybear: I know sisters who are Rhiannon and Reagan!
To answer the original question, no I would not use Raegan. I prefer traditional spellings.
What about Raven? No ones going to hve ears of that's so raven by the time our LOs hit school age. Rosine? Rayanne?
pomelo / 5321 posts
I like the name but I think people would think the spelling was a typo. I would go with Ragen instead. I love the name Rowan!
pineapple / 12053 posts
Yay for Rowan!
I agree with PPs that it looks like a typo of Reagan, but I love the name Reagan for a girl! I dont like it would be mispronounced as Raegan, just misspelled. Remy is also cute
pineapple / 12526 posts
Probably not. I'd spell it the normal way.
IMO, I like Rowan better! SO cute.
pomelo / 5132 posts
I would probably spell it the traditional way. I like both Reagan and Rowan! So cute.
pear / 1723 posts
I'd probably spell it the traditional way. But I love the name, and for a girl, I definitely associate it with King Lear's daughters - Reagan, Goneril, and Cordelia. Maybe a boy would associate more with the past president for me.

@T.H.O.U.: FWIW I have a name that is ALWAYS mis spelled and quite frankly I don't care!!! I love my name, I love that it's not a name everyone else has and if that means I have to constantly correct people and spell it out, it's so meh to me.
I like the name
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@T.H.O.U.: I'm totally a traditionalist so I say no to the different spelling but yay to how you want to pronounce it. I want people to pronounce my daughter's name with an "a" emphasis on the e. So far it's working.
cherry / 134 posts
I love it! In fact if I didn't already have a Kennady it would be a top contender for this baby. I wouldn't worry about spelling. Although Kennady's name is spelled "differently" people generally ask before they start to write it so whether it was spelled with an "e" or an "a" she would get questioned the same.
honeydew / 7235 posts
i would! I like that spelling... and I have always loved that name... and actually, i think that spelling makes it easier for people to say RAY-GAN, and not REE-GAN.
