I used to work as a nanny in Los Angeles for about 8 years. I eventually worked my way up to where I was making 6 figures (hardest and most stressful job ever, so the income met the demands imo). When I moved to Atlanta, I was making much, much less. Hubby's salary, however, increased quite a bit when we moved here.
Do you think your salary would drastically change if you were to move due to cost of living differences?

My husbands would, for sure!! We live in Montana so average income here is much lower than the rest of the country, and cost of living isn't. He makes 44k clerking as a lawyer, and a friend makes 75k clerking in Tacoma.

I'm a teacher, so it's pretty much the same no matter where I live so long as we're in this province (in Canada). For that reason, we have chosen to live somewhere with lower housing prices.

I'm a teacher but in a private school in NYC. My salary would probably drop significantly if I moved somewhere else! NYC is pretty much the only place where private school teachers get paid decently, from what I've heard!

My husbands might but anywhere else would be cheaper than the Bay Area! So I guess that would be equivalent to a raise

Same!! I'm a nanny and I could DEFINITELY make tens of thousands more somewhere else especially with the experience I have.

If I was still working in my previous field (IT), then yes, for sure. In my current position (SAHM), unfortunately, NO! LOL!

I'm a SAHM, so my salary is fixed DH would be pretty much the same, but our cost of living would be lower in the cities that we would move to.

I'm SAH but my husband's absolutely will. We're planning a move and from what we've looked into his new base, at entry level, will be higher than his current base. It will probably be just below what he's making with OT now.

Mine would probably stay the same within our current province, as would DHs. It would go down for both of us if we were to ever move to DHs home province, but the town we'd ideally move to there cost of living would not go down!

Yep. First off, I'd actually find a job in my field. I have a background in business marketing and live in a tiny little town, but then there would still be the language problem - my knowledge of the Swedish language is ... lacking.
DH would make 2 to 3.5 times more if we moved to my hometown. If we moved somewhere in the eastcoast, it would be even more.
