I currently 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant and just started experiencing period like bleeding (thick and bright red). I called my ob office and they're going to have the on call doctor call me back soon. I'm totally freaking out ladies. Advice?

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It sounds like you are likely miscarrying, this is exactly what I experienced. I hope for your sake that everything is okay and this is not the case. I will keep you in my thoughts.

The doctor said I'm too early in my pregnancy to know for sure if I am or not but to go to the ER and get my hcg hormones measured then meet with my doctor on Monday to have her take the measurement again to know for sure. I feel like I am because I'm cramping on one side only and it's bright red. I'm so heart broken and am crying my eyes out.

@Alivoo01: You will know in your heart before it shows up on hCG tests. Right now, let yourself cry and take care of yourself. Your little one may be fine and if so, you need your rest. And if you are miscarrying, your body needs the rest so you can recover and mourn.
I will pray for you.

I'm so sorry, I will be thinking of you. However, I had bright red bleeding at 7 weeks and everything turned out just fine. I hope this is the case for you!

@Alivoo01: I'm so sorry. I went through the same thing almost exactly 1 year ago. I woke up to heavy, period like bleeding. The ER was not an option for me because I was on vacation at the time visiting a friend (thank God for her!) and my insurance didn't cover any type of treatment where I was. So, I went to see her dr, was given an ultrasound where they confirmed that there was no longer a gestational sac and sent me on my way.
All I can say is that, as painful as it is, it does get better in time. Right now as it's happening you will probably go through a whirlwind of emotions. You need to just let yourself feel whatever it is you are feeling and do whatever you can to make yourself feel better. For me this meant drinking lots of wine and smoking lots of cigarettes for 3 weeks as I processed what had happened...It got me through that very hard time and then pretty soon we were able to try again. 2 months later, we got our BFP and I am due any day now. There is a light at the end of the TTC & m/c tunnel, you may not see it at this moment but it's there. Find the support you need from your friends/family and do what you need to do to get through this. You will never forget, but as I said it does get better. Sending you lots of hugs!

I am very very sorry you are going through this. While I won't say that you are definitely miscarrying, as you could have something like a subchorionic hemmorhage or another complication, I do agree that getting your hcg levels checked at the ER will give you an idea of if the worst is occurring or not. I have had 2 very early miscarriages, and when I started bleeding like I had gotten my period (first time) I went to the ER and they confirmed that my hcg had dropped down from what it was several days prior at my my dr's office. The second time my hcg levels were dropping before I bled, so I had a head's up. But both times for me it was bleeding and cramping like a bad period.
MANY hugs to you, and please let us know your levels at the ER. I am so sorry:(

I'm so sorry. I miscarried in May and had the heads up that my levels were never at a normal level and were dropping. My heart is breaking for you and I pray that everything is okay. Take time to cry and sleep. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh, I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. It's so scary having no idea, I had bleeding for a couple of weeks and some of it was bright red. Everything ended up fine and they said some people just bleed. It could also be an SCH. Please update us if you're able to, and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

@Alivoo01: I had bright red bleeding with small clumps at 6 weeks (blood soaked my underwear) but had a healthy baby.. Is the bleeding filling a pad within 1-2 hours?
Hoping for the best for you!!

I hope everything turns out okay for you... I experienced quite a bit of bleeding early in my pregnancy and the doctors warned me that it could be a miscarriage, but now I have a healthy five-month-old. Hoping that you have some good news tomorrow~
