Our 5th is in July. We are goign to a wedding in Stowe two weeks after our anniversary..not sure yet if we're taking L or not. we're also batting around the idea of going to a friend's Jamaica wedding in October.

Yes! We were originally planning a trip to Europe but LO will only be 4 so we may do a Caribbean island instead.

@locavore_mama: Congrats mama! Hey, things can change in a year so it doesn't hurt to just look around and price out how much it might be and how you can make it work!

Our 5th is in October. We are thinking of going away for a long weekend without DD. But I definitely want to be enjoying some win and cocktails but I also definitely want to be pregnant by then....decisions decisions....

We were planning a 4th anniversary trip last year, but it fell through. Our 5th anniversary is this year. We currently don't have any big trip for it planned. I'm hoping to be pregnant by then, so trip isn't a priority. We had a little getaway to St. Louis for a wedding recently. It was a mini trip. My parents have already offered to watch LO for a weekend where we can jet up to Door County, WI for a getaway.

@Tidybee: What's your anniversary date? Ours is October 10th! Sounds like we're in the same boat about wanting to be pregnant by then.

We just had our 5th anniversary last month-- we've been going to the same little Danish town for our anniversary, so we just made it into a long weekend (Thu-Sun) with our 20 month old. I was 8 months pregnant, too, so we couldn't really do much (there are wineries galore in this area! It's where they filmed "Sideways").

We'll aim to do something special for our 10th and leave the kids w/ grandma, but we'll see how life goes!

Our 5 year is this November. I guess we're kind of taking an early trip for it. Staying at a resort on Maroma Beach, Mexico for 5 days in September, sans kids. First real vacation since our honeymoon, and it'll be our night alone since babies were born in Jan. 2013 .... CANNOT WAIT!!

Our five year is in August and we are going to stay at a very nice hotel in RI. LO will be with the in-laws. I'm hoping I don't worry about her all weekend since it will be the first time we would be leaving her overnight with anyone.

Yep, we did London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Rome for our 5th. No kids at that time though, or we definitely wouldn't have been able to afford it!

@locavore_mama: We had out 5th last fall, and we spent a long weekend in NYC together. It was fabulous, and though we had both been there before, we had never been together! I absolutely suggest a getaway, no matter how near or far!

@cascademom: We're the week before -- the 3rd! We want to go away before getting pregnant again but we already have vacations scheduled in the summer with DD. Or maybe I just won't be pregnant by October!

Our 5th is in the rearview, but we didn't do anything for it. We did a Europe trip the year after we got married and the spring before we got pregnant, so we had kinda maxed ourselves out on that sort of thing in terms of finances. We had tentatively planned a big trip for our 10th anniversary (this year is our 7th), but I'd like to go before that point, due to childspacing and me just being in the mood to go somewhere, ha. But the money is not there whatsoever! We are putting our house on the market and are planning to rent the next time around, so maybe if we made any money from the sale we could use part of that for a trip fund instead of a down payment fund.

Our 5th is next October and I'd really like to go somewhere warm and beachy for a second honeymoon, but I'm not sure whether or not it'll happen yet.

that is next year! we don't have any plans and money will be tight as it will be following my first year of nursing school so even if we do a weekend trip - it will be a splurge!

YES! DH has promised to take me to Europe for our 5th, which is April 2016. I'm going to start putting money away for it next year. I can't waaaaaait! Never been out of the country, and I'm ridiculously excited.

    @cascademom: @Tidybee: Our 5th is 10/17!

I always thought we would do something big for #5, but it's just 6 months away in October and we are moving cross country in August and my husband is starting a new job in September and we hope to be pregnant with #2. So I just don't see it happening. Maybe we'll do a big one for #6. We honeymooned in Bermuda and are dying to go back.

We've still got time, but I love to. Also, it's not too late for you guys. My parents took there 30th anniversary trip "one year late" because things prevented them from going on their actual 30th.

@Tidybee: @winniebee: I'm crossing my fingers for us October 2009 anniversaries to be pregnant with our #2's by then. I'm cool with not having a big vacation for it. I like short getaways for a quick recharge until LO and another LO get bigger. Then, we'll focus on family vacations.

For our fifth, we took a long weekend to Land Between the Lakes. I'd like to go somewhere bigger for our tenth, maybe DC.

@mediagirl: @heartonastring: haha well Lake Erie is pretty big. But the parts near us are black and murky and known to be contaminated. So,no, I won't put my child in it.

DH grew up around here and spent a lot of time in the lake too. But lots happened in the last few decades!

Ours is in August and I wanted to do a big trip since we never took a honeymoon but its not looking like it is going to happen. Instead we plan on spending a long weekend in Paso Robles wine tasting and relaxing.

@locavore_mama: I would try taking your kids on a boat at some point before booking a cruise. I had no idea until I took a boat for the first time that I get TERRIBLY sick.

Another place that might be fun for kids your age is Great Wolf Lodge - the big indoor water park resort. There's one in MA and one in the Poconos in PA that are both driveable from upstate NY. The rooms come with microwaves and fridges, so you may be able to save money by making sandwiches and heating things up for breakfast and lunch. You probably only need 2-3 days there, and you can throw in a side trip to Boston or Hersheypark to stretch it a little longer if you like.

I hope we can! We really wanted to go to Vancouver for our honeymoon, but it wasn't in the finances. We went to upstate NY instead, which turned out to be fun. But now we live here, so I'd like to go out there Baby will be about 18 months old, so who knows if we will end up going alone or with LO. Either would be fun.

@gingerbebe: thanks but great Wolf Lodge is $$! Even with Groupon deals they're almost $300/night. My SIL takes my niece all the time and I Def want to join them one of these days.

Our 5 year anniversary will be next June and I'm looking forward to a trip alone with my husband. Our kids will be 3.5 and 14 months. Probably a 3 night stay somewhere in the Caribbean. Anyone have any great recommendations, preferably a direct flight from Philadelphia?

  29. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

Our 5yr will be next May. On our honeymoon we decided to go back to Hawaii...haha definitely not happening with a 2.5 and 1 year old. I would never make the trip with them, wouldn't be able to leave them behind, and couldn't afford it on one salary anyway. So maybe we'll go someplace kind of close for an overnight if both kids are sttn consistently.

@LovelyPlum: Montreal is about an 8hr drive from here and that's TOTALLY do-able with a 18m! It's on my bucket list. Maybe we'll do a long weekend there instead! Hehe but for some reason I want to see Montreal in the winter.

@snowjewelz: haha yeah, it's just fun to talk and think about. Who knows if anything will actually happen if it'll be in the cards. Gotta keep thinking about uplifting things!

@locavore_mama: I lived in Montreal for a few years. I would never go back in the winter!!! It gets sooooo cold that my friends that visited pretty much decided never to go again! I would definitely recommend in the summer months though!

  33. regberadaisy

    GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts

@skipra: haha I live somewhere that winter gets pretty cold and it's about 5 months long so I'm used to the frigid temps! But maybe before it gets TOO cold so sightseeing is more plausible.

We only did Maui because the month before we has just retuned from an out of the country vacation for a month. But, it was such a great trip and can't wait to go back.

    @HabesBabe: ebelskivers!

Ours is next year (4 years is next week!). We've gone somewhere every year except for this one (although we are going to Hawaii at the end of the month but with the in laws). No clue of what we'll be doing then so we'll see if we get around to planning a get away!

@locavore_mama: my sister and BIL went to a resort outside of Montreal for their honeymoon and loved it! We also really want to.visit PEI, so that is in the running, too. It would require a flight, though.

Ours will be the same year DH graduates from college, I think I'm going to start secretly stashing $ away so we can go somewhere nice to celebrate his graduation and our anniversary!!

I'd LOVE to be able to take him back to the Bahamas but I doubt our budget will allow for that

  38. heartonastring

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@locavore_mama: I used to live in Montreal too and I wouldn't go between December and March if you want to sightsee. I've lived in Canada my whole life and am used to cold, but it's a whole other level of cold. Think -40 for weeks on end.

Also, it's way more fun in the summer when all the festivals are going on and you can eat outdoors.
