If you had an ultrasound at 6 weeks, what was it like? Did you hear or see the heartbeat? Did anyone's doc let them come in even earlier for an ultrasound?

At 6w2d (measured) to 6w6d (what I actually was, my due date got changed at 12w and that was more in line with when I think I conceived) I did see a heartbeat!

I went in at 6w4d and baby measured 6w1d (I was super nervous about that because I KNEW when I ovulated/conceived, but by 8 weeks, he was caught up and actually ahead). And yes, we were able to see and measure the heartbeat!

Can't remember the exact day but I think it was 6w5d but we seen the heart beat, sac and fetal pole but of course it was too early to hear it

Saw it but it was too early for the heartbeat but everything measured right on track. We saw the heartbeat at 8 weeks.

I had one at 5.5 weeks (because of pain I was having). I saw the little bean and it had just started having a heartbeat!

My first was at 5 weeks, 6 days and we saw the sacs and fetal poles but no heartbeats. 10 days later we went back for our 2nd ultrasound and there were heartbeats! Crazy!

I had one at 4w5d because I was bleeding & they wanted to confirm this wasn't ectopic. All we could see was a gestational sac.
I had another at 6w1d and we saw a gestational sac and yolk sac, but no fetal pole or HB.
At 8w1d I went in for viability and my peanuts heart was thumping away at 158!

I had one at 6 weeks, measured 6 weeks 2 days and we saw a heartbeat.

We heard the heartbeat @ 6 weeks and the baby was a little shrimp/blob! I did get u/s @ 4 & 5 weeks but you can only really see the sac.

6w seems early to me because you likely won't see a heartbeat then panic. I would prefer to go at 8w when I'd be confident of the results. Good luck!

I went in somewhere around 5 or 6 weeks because I had a previous ectopic pregnancy. No heartbeat, but there were TWO sacks! Came back 9 days later and only one baby Healthy heartbeat though
The US Tech told me it's actually fairly common for women to have twins, and then for one to disappear early on and never know, since most women don't come in until 10-12 weeks.
Makes me sad to know about it though

I had an ultrasound at what ended up being 5w6d, and saw a heartbeat. I had long cycles so I wasn't sure how far along I was, so they scheduled me earlier than the usual 8 weeks at my practice.

I think our ultrasound was at 7 weeks? We saw the heartbeat but didn't get to hear it (they didn't try until 12 weeks.) So cool! They said they wouldn't do it earlier though.

I didn't get one till between 7-8 weeks. It was a stomach one, and we saw and heard the heartbeat.

I've had scans at 6, 8, 10, and 12 weeks. There's no HB at week 6, but you can see the pole and a tiny sac. I think the HB is still iffy at 6 weeks, anyways.

In my experience, there is very little value in having an u/s before 6 weeks (that is the earliest most doctors do it). I had an u/s at 5w1d with DD because my beta numbers indicated an ectopic and my doctor wanted to treat it as soon as possible so I didn't lose the tube (I only have one working tube). We saw that the pregnancy was in the uterus, but that was it - all we saw was a sack. No heartbeat, no fetal pole. So while it was nice to know that the pregnancy was not ectopic, it did *nothing* to alleviate my worries about miscarriage. We had to go back at 6w1d to see a heartbeat. In the future, I will just wait until 6 weeks because going twice was a pain, I was super stressed that week because we had not seen a heartbeat, etc.

I didn't get an early scan since my office doesn't do them, but I had one at 10 weeks and was able to see the heartbeat.

I had a transvaginal ultra sound at 7 weeks and was able to see the heartbeat.

@QBbride: if you are under an RE's care you will get several early ultrasounds as a matter of practice. Usually you are then released around 8 weeks to an OB.
I saw the heartbeat at my 6 week appointment for both of my pregnancies. Good luck!

I agree with @septca:
I had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks, but all they saw was the sack. It was one of the worst feelings ever to have to wonder if the pregnancy wasn't viable, or if my math was just wrong.
My docs schedule them for "6-8" weeks...and I think from now on I'll err on the 8 week side (unless other issues are present) so I don't have to go through that worry again.

My MW's offered to do one at 6-7 weeks for me this time...but I'm waiting until 8.5 weeks. I want there to really be something to see!

I had one at 7 weeks for my first pregnancy and we saw/heard the heartbeat

My RE wanted me to wait until at least 7w5d because there would be a better chance of seeing and hearing a hearbeat. But we were going on vacation so I had an US at 6w5d. We were able to see the sac and a heartbeat but we couldn't hear anything yet.

@MaryM: Exactly. Plus, my doctor's advice was essentially that if the pregnancy wasn't going to be viable, there was absolutely nothing that she or I could do to stop a miscarriage. That was a bit of tough love, but it made me feel better - it was out of my hands - and made me want to wait until there was really something to see for subsequent pregnancies. (This last time, I had an u/s scheduled for a little after 6 weeks, but I miscarried before that.)

@MaryM: This was exactly my reasoning. I don't want to worry for no reason!

First u/s was at 5wk1d to confirm that the pregnancy was in the right place (had an ectopic prior) - saw gestational sac.
2nd u/s was at 6wk1d - saw fetal pole and heard the heartbeat.

We were able to see the heartbeat both on the stomach and vaginal ultrasound but got a better picture with the latter. Couldn't hear anything yet but saw it.

I had one at 6weeks 3/4 days. We heard the heart beat. Baby just looks like a tiny blob. But it was awesome. Good luck!!!

I had one early in week 5 and there wasn't a heartbeat yet. I was crazy nervous because of spotting and I had to travel the next week so that's why she did it but it wasn't really worth much. I would wait until 6 weeks so you can see the heartbeat.

@septca: a 6w ultrasound is pretty standard with an RE, who the OP was seeing.
clementine / 854 posts
At 6w3d, we both heard and saw a heartbeat. I was 6w on a Friday and my RE recommended waiting until the following Mon for our u/s since so much can change so quickly early on.

I know it was at some point in the 6th week but we definitely heard the heartbeat.
GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts
@Mrs. Jump Rope: I know. But she asked of anyone's doctor "let" them come in earlier. My point was only that I had one earlier than 6w and wouldn't go that route again.
